31、ki and Tsukki are also known as the Snowlets. “Snow” recalls the winter season, during which the Games take place, and “l(fā)ets” refers to “l(fā)ets”, and invitation to join in the Games celebrations. In addition, the first two letters of the four names form the word “snowlets”. “Owlets” means young owls.
32、Description Sukki, Nokki, Lekki and Tsukki are four snowy owls. They represent respectively fire (Sukki), air (Nokki), earth (Lekki) and water (Tsukki). 34、and Millie to the new millennium. Description The three mascots are a duck-billed platypus (Syd), a kookaburra (Olly) and an echidna or spiny anteater (Millie). They symbolise the water, air and earth respectively. Their colours correspond to those of the Games emblem, and all three are typical exam
35、ples of Australian fauna,Sydney 2000 - Lizzy,Lizzy, the frill-necked Lizard was chosen as the mascot for the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games. The frill of the Paralympic mascot, coloured in green and gold and in the shape of Australia, represents the country, with the ochre body mirroring the colour of

Lizzys strength, determination and attitude symbolise all Paralympic athletes participating at the Games,Salt Lake City 2002 Mascots,The names Powder, Copper and Coal are an allusion to Utahs natural resources, its snow and its land. Over 42,000 schoolchildren gave their advice on the mas
37、cots names. The Organising Committee then launched a national vote to determine their final names. Other options were Sky, Cliff, Shadow and Arrow, Bolt, Rocky. Description Powder is a snowshoe hare, Copper a coyote and Coal a black bear. The hares speed, the coyotes ability to climb the highest mou
38、ntaintops and the black bears strength illustrate the Olympic motto Citius, Altius, Fortius (faster, higher, stronger). The inspiration for the mascots came from ancient Utah cultures. Each wears a necklace featuring the animal he/she represents in the form of a petroglyph (rock engraving) in the st
39、yle of the Anasazis or Fremonts, ancient peoples from the region. In addition, the three animals were often the major protagonists in Native American legends, passed on from generation to generation,Salt Lake City 2002 Otto,Otto the otter, the Paralympic mascot for Salt Lake City 2002, was chosen by

The otter is an animal with a long history in Utah, with Native American tribes once living there considering it to be one of the most powerful animals. The names of the two mascots are a reference to two gods of Olympus: “Phoebos” is another name for Apollo, the god of light and music; “Athena” is the goddess of

Description Phevos and Athena are brother and sister. They owe their strange shape to a typical terracotta doll in the shape of a bell from the 7th cen

The choice of a brother and sister was deliberate: they embody the unity of men and women, through equality and brotherhood. Spyros Gogos, the creator of Proteas, took a deliberate step away from pre
45、vious Paralympic mascot designs and created what he felt best represented the nature of the competitions and the athletes constant goal of achieving excellency,Turin 2006 Mascots,Neve and Gliz: in Italian, “neve” means snow and “gliz” is a nod to the word “ghiaccio”, which means ice. 47、 recall the power and strength of athletes. He wears a blue outfit,Torino 2006 - Aster,As snowflakes are unique, so are the athletes participating in the Paralympic Games. This idea is echoed by Aster, the mascot of the Torino 2006 Paralympic Winter Games. Designed by Pedro Albuquerque, the complexi
48、ty and uniqueness of the Paralympic mascot represents the unique way an individual can practice sport, and also their unique way of life,Beijing 2008 Mascots,Each name rhymes by repeating the same syllable: a traditional Chinese way of showing affection to children. Linking the five names forms the
49、sentence “Welcome to Beijing” (Bei Jing Huan Ying Nin). The mascots form the “Fuwa”, which translates as “good-luck dolls”. Description The mascots correspond to the five natural elements and, apart from Huanhuan, to four popular animals in China. Each mascot represents the colour of one of the five
50、 Olympic rings. Each also bears a wish, as it was traditional in ancient Chinese culture to transmit wishes through signs or symbols. Beibei the fish is a reference to the element of water. She is blue and her wish is prosperity. The waves on her head are based on a design in traditional Chinese pai
51、nting. Jingjing the panda represents the forest. He is black and his wish is happiness. Porcelain paintings from the Song dynasty (960-1234 AD) were the inspiration for the lotus flowers on his head. Yingying, the Tibetan antelope, represents earth. He is yellow and his wish is good health. Decorati
52、ve elements from Western China appear on his head. Nini, the swallow, represents the sky. She is green and her wish is good luck. Her design is inspired by those on Chinese kites. Swallow is pronounced “Yan” in Chinese, and an ancient name for Beijing was “Yanjing”. Huanhuan symbolises fire and the
53、Olympic spirit. His red colour transmits the passion of sport. Dunhunag grotto art inspired the decoration on his head, together with certain traditional good-luck designs,Beijing 2008 - Fu Niu Lele,The cow Fu Niu Lele was chosen to be the mascot of the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games only after the o
54、riginal 87 designs for a mascot were all rejected for various reasons. Wu GuanYing came up with the cow, because, as he grew up on a farm, it was his understanding that cows were gentle creatures that formed bonds with the humans taking care for them. The Paralympic mascot was painted in colours tak
55、en from traditional Chinese New Years drawings and gifts. Its name literally means “Good Luck!(Fu)-Cow(Niu)-Happiness(Lele,Vancouver 2010 Mascots,Quatchi and Miga Description The Vancouver Games mascots were creatures inspired by the fauna and tales of the First Nations on the West Coast of Canada.
56、Quatchi is a sasquatch, a popular character from local legend who lives in the forest. He is covered in thick fur and wears boots and earmuffs. Miga is a sea bear, a mythical animal that is part killer whale and part Kermode bear. The Kermode bear, also called “Bear Spirit” lives only in British Col

The character reflects First Nation imagery, and its name is based on “Sumesh”, the Salish word for “guar
