形容詞有三種級別，即原級、比較級和最高級。當討論對象是一個時應使用原級，當討論對象是兩個時應使用比較級，當討論對象在三個或更多時應使用最高級。在形容詞原級后面加上er就成為比較級，在原級后加上est就成為最高級。普通單音節(jié)形容詞直接加er或est，詞尾是不發(fā)音字母e只加r或st，重讀閉音節(jié)應雙寫詞尾輔音字母再加er或est，如

long—longer—longest，

nice—nicer—nicest，

big—bigger—biggest。

以輔音字母加y為結尾雙音節(jié)形容詞應將y改為i再加上er或est，如：

early—earlier—earliest，

dirty—dirtier—dirtiest，

busy—busier—busiest。

多音節(jié)形容詞比較級應在前面加上more，最高級應在前面加上most，如：

important—moreimportant—mostimportant，

difficult—moredifficult—mostdifficult。

有些特殊形容詞有自己改變規(guī)律，如：

good/well—better—best，bad/badly—worse—worst，

many/much—more—most，little—less—least，

far—farther/further—farthest/furthest。

第2頁形容詞比較級句型應使用連詞than或or，如：

第三輛卡車在全部卡車中載書最多.兩個人或物比較時，假如只說明二者相同或不一樣，則可使用as...as...句型，否定句為notas(so)...as...句型，這里形容詞仍使用原級。如：
