Networksiscommittedtoenergy-efficientmanufacturingandtofullcompliancetoEuropeanUnion’sdirectivesontheRestrictionofHazardousSubstances(RoHS)andWasteElectricalandElectronicEquipment(WEEE).ThecompactsizeandweightoftheFlexiBTSmodules(volumeofroughly25liters,weight<25kg)hasdoublepositiveimpactforthedeployment:First,alllogisticsoftransportingandinstallingtheBTSareoptimized.Smallervehiclescanbeusedormorebasestationstransportedinthesamecontainer.Nocranesareneededforinstallation.Second,owingtothemodular,outdoor-capableandcompactdesign,theFlexiBTScanbedeployedatsitesthatareoptimumfromtheradionetworkplanning,butwereunattainablewithconventionalcabinet-typebasestations.Intotal,NokiaNetworksestimatesthatthelogisticsfootprintisreducedby80%.ysisoftheCO2footprintofthefourphasesrevealedthattheusephaseisdominant.ThereforemeasureshavebeentakentoextendtheusephaseinaCO2neutralway.Nokia Networkscanlookbackonasuccessfultrackrecordinprovidingbasestationcapabilityandcapacitybymeansofsoftwareupgradesratherthanhardwareexchange.TheFlexiBTSprovidesforsoftwareupgradewithintheradiotechnologies,e.g.fromWCDMAtoHSDPAtoHSUPAtoHSPAevolutionorfromGSMtoEDGEevolution,butalsoforsoftwareupgradetoLTE.Indeed,Nokia
