NormanBethuneisoneofthemostfamousheroesinChina.HewasaCanadiandoctor.HecametoChinatohelptheChinesepeopleanddiedforthem.NormanBethunewasbornin1890.Hebecameadoctorwhenhewas26yearsoldandwenttoSpainin1936totreatthesickpeoplethere.Hesoonrealizedthatmanypeopleweredyingbecausetheydidnotgettothehospitalquicklyenough.So2yearsafterthat,Dr.BethunecametoChinaandhelpedtreatthewounded(傷員).Atthesametime,Bethuneorganizedhospitals,taughtdoctorsandnurses,andshowedpeoplehowtogivefirstaidinChina.Dr.Bethuneoftenworkedlatewithoutresting.Onceheevenworkedforsixty-ninehourswithoutstoppingandmanagedtosaveoverahundredlives.Onedayin1939,hecuthisfingerduringanoperation(手術),buthecontinuedhisworkwithouttreatingit.Intheend,hediedofhiswound.However,Bethunewasnotonlyanexcellentdoctor,butalsoaninventor.Hedevelopednewwaysoftakingcareofthesick.Heinventedspecialmedicaltoolstouseoutsidehospitalssothatdoctorscouldtreatthesickpeoplemorequickly.Hisinventionssavedmanylives.Dr.Bethune’sworkfortheChinesepeoplemadehimaheroinChina.Therearemanybooksandfilmsabouthim,andheisstillrememberedinbothChinaandCanadatoday.(
