Objective:

Bytheendofthislesson,studentswillbeabletounderstandandusebasiccolorvocabularyinEnglish.

Level:Beginner/Elementary

Time:60minutes

Materials:

-Flashcardsorpicturesofdifferentcolors

-Whiteboardandmarkers

-Worksheetswithcolor-relatedactivities

-Songorvideorelatedtocolors(optional)

Procedure:

1.Warm-up(5minutes)

-Greetthestudentsandaskthemhowtheyaredoing.

-Reviewpreviouslylearnedvocabularyrelatedtocolors,ifapplicable.

-Showflashcardsorpicturesofdifferentcolorstoelicitthecolornamesfromthestudents.

2.Introduction(10minutes)

-Writetheword"colors"ontheboard.

-Askthestudentsiftheyknowwhatcolorsareandencouragethemtogiveexamples.

-Explainthatcolorsareawaytodescribetheappearanceofobjectsorthingsaroundus.

-Presentafewexamplesentencesusingcolorvocabulary,e.g."Theskyisblue.""Ihavearedpen."

-Usetheflashcardsorpicturestoreviewthebasiccolornameswiththestudents,havingthemrepeatafteryou.

3.VocabularyPractice(15minutes)

-Dividethestudentsintopairsorsmallgroups.

-Giveeachgroupasetofflashcardsorpicturesofdifferentcolors.

-Havethestudentstaketurnsholdingupacardanddescribingthecolortotheirpartner/groupusingsentences,e.g."Thiscolorisyellow.Bananasarethiscolor."

-Walkaroundtheclassroom,monitoringandhelpingasneeded.

4.GrammarActivity(15minutes)

-Onthewhiteboard,writethreesentencesusingdifferentcolors,e.g."Thegrassisgreen.""Herdressispurple.""Thesunisyellow."

-Askthestudentstoidentifythecommonpatterninthesesentences(theverb"tobe"followedbyacolor).

-Introduceandexplainthestructurebywriting"Subject+Verbtobe+Color"ontheboard.

-Provideadditionalexamplesandaskstudentstocreatetheirownsentencesusingdifferentcolors.

-Handoutworksheetswithfill-in-the-blankorsentence-buildingexercisesrelatedtocolorvocabularyandgrammar.

5.Application(10minutes)

-Playacolor-relatedsongorvideo,ifavailableandappropriateforthelevelofthestudents.

-Askthestudentstopayattentiontothedifferentcolorsmentionedinthesong/video.

-Afterthesong/video,haveaclassdiscussionaboutthedifferentcolorstheyheardorsaw.

6.ReviewandWrap-up(5minutes)

-Reviewthecolorvocabularyandgrammarlearnedduringthelessonbyaskingstudentsquestionssuchas:"Whatcoloristhesky?""Howdoyousay'green'inEnglish?"

-Answeranyfinalquestionsthestudentsmayhave.

-Assignhomeworkrelatedtocolorvocabulary,suchascoloringapictureusingdifferentcolorsordescribingthecolorsofobjectsathome.
