5、read and those which have been read to me have built themselves into a great shining lighthouse, showing me the deepest channels of human life and the human spirit.In the afternoon of that first seeing day, I should take a long walk in the woods and intoxicate (使陶醉) my eyes on the beauties of the wo
6、rld of Nature trying desperately to absorb in a few hours the vast brilliance which is presenting itself to those who can see. On the way home from my woodland trip, my path would lie close to a farm so that I might see the patient horses ploughing in the field and the peaceful content of men living
7、 close to the soil. And I should pray for the glory of a colorful sunset.When dusk had fallen, I should experience the double delight of being able to see by artificial light which the genius of man has created to extend the power of his sight when Nature brings darkness.In the night of that first d

However, before transforming the dream into reality, the b
9、enefits and drawbacks of hosting the Olympics should be considered carefully.Hosting the Olympics surely would bring about much gain to a city. Boom of the local economy, more jobs, and the possibility of generating income all sound extremely attractive to the municipal government. At the same time,
10、 better infrastructure (基礎(chǔ)設(shè)施), cleaner environment, enjoying the wonderful game with hundreds of sports elites (精英) and entertainment stars, and the opportunity of contacting people from all over the world also seem exciting to the citizens. Besides, the hosting will definitely promote the patriotic
11、 emotion and pride, as well as the moral behavior in local people. In most cases, hosting the Olympics is well supported by both the public and the central government.But this is not the entire view of the pretty picture. If we look from another angle, the Olympic hosting might bring about some side
12、-effects to a city.First, the environmental impacts, including the increasing exhaust smoke of cars, more pressure on water resources, huge amount of wasted leaflets and other materials used for public activities, are most probably neglected. In order to broaden the streets, some trees may have to b
13、e cut. Near the construction site, the tiny dust may float in the air for a long time. Reduction of farmland may be caused by the need of setting up new sports centre or accommodation facilities. These environmental consequences can be especially serious in a resource-limited and thickly-populated c
14、ity in a third-world country. Second, if talking about the economic benefit, it should not be forgotten that a quick increase may lead to bubble (泡沫) growth, which may easily crash. If not well managed and organized, the big event may not be so profitable, and the new facilities may be forever empty
15、 after the games. Yes, there have been cases that host cities ended up with enormous debts.No one stops eating merely because too much food might hurt his stomach and make him ill. Since we have bid for it, what we can do is to make the benefits most and reduce the drawbacks least.三Teamwork is just
16、as important in science as it is on the playing field or in the gym. Scientific investigations (調(diào)查) are almost always carried out by teams of people working together. Ideas are shared, experiments are designed, data are analyzed, and results are evaluated and shared with other investigators. Group w
17、ork is necessary, and is usually more productive than working alone.Several times throughout the year you may be asked to work with one or more of your classmates. Whatever the task your group is assigned, a few rules need to be followed to ensure a productive and successful experience.What comes fi
18、rst is to keep an open mind, because everyones ideas deserve consideration and each group member can make his or her own contribution. Secondly, it makes a job easier to divide the group task among all group members. Choose a role on the team that is best suited to your particular strengths. Thirdly
19、, always work together, take turns, and encourage each other by listening, clarifying, and trusting one another. Mutual support and trust often makes a great difference.Activities like investigations are most effective when done by small groups. Here are some more suggestions for effective team perf
20、ormance during these activities: Make sure each group member understands and agrees to the task given to him or her, and everyone knows exactly when , why and what to do; take turns doing various tasks during similar and repeated activities; be aware of where other group members are and what they ar
21、e doing so as to ensure safety; be responsible for your own learning, though it is by no means unwise to compare your observations with those of other group members.When there is research to be done, divide the topic into several areas, and this can explore the issue in a very detailed way. You are
22、encouraged to keep records of the sources used by each person, which helps you trace back to the origin of the problems that may happen unexpectedly. A format for exchanging information (e.g., photocopies of notes , oral discussion, etc.) is also important, for a well-chosen method not only strength
23、ens what you present but also makes yourself easily understood. When the time comes to make a decision and take a position on an issue, allow for the contributions of each member of the group. Most important of all, it is always wise to make decisions by compromise and agreement.After youve complete
24、d a task with your team, make an evaluation of the teams effectivenessMaybe you are an average student. You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessary so, however. Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Heres how:1. Plan your time carefully. When you pla
25、n your week, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time. First your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. then decide a good, regular time for studying. Dont forget to set aside enough time for entertainment. A weekly sch
26、edule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you to realize what is happening to your time.2. Find a good place to study. Look around the house for a good study area. Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials. No games, r
27、adios, or television! When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject.3. Make good use of your time in class. Take advantage of class time to listen to everything the teachers say. Really listening in class means less work later. Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says.4. St
28、udy regularly. When you get home from school, go over your notes. Review the important points that your teacher mentioned in class. If you know what your teacher is going to discuss the next day, read that material will become more meaningful, and you will remember it longer.5. Develop a good attitu
29、de about tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge. The world wont end if you dont pass a test, so dont be overly worried.There are other methods that might help you with your studying. You will probably discover many oth

Therefore, I believe that we should never give up.One reason is that if we give up too easily, we will rarely achieve anything. It i
50、s not unusual for us to fail in our first attempt at something new, so we should not feel disappointed and should try again. Besides, if we always give up when we fail , we will not be able to develop new skills and grow.Another reason we should never give up is that we can learn from our mistakes s

If we do not try again, the lesson we have learned is wasted.Finally, we should never give up because as we work to reach our goals, we develop confidence, and this confidence can help us succeed in other areas of our lives. 55、usly the better answer is to expand their vocabulary. However, you can speak with a limited vocabulary, if your attitude is positive. Others will follow you as long as you use the words that you know. Second, they are afraid of making mistakes. Sometimes they make mistakes when they are speaking, be
56、cause they are shy and nervous. Yet students should remember that their goal should be fluency not accuracy. Your aim in writing is to be accurate following the rules for grammar and using tenses to get your message across. But to talk to someone in English, as quickly and well as you can, even thou
57、gh sometimes you may use a wrong word of tense, but it doesnt matter because the person you are speaking to will understand you.The third reason is that not enough attention is paid to listening. you have one mouth but two ears! All that hearing is necessary for you to start speaking.Fourth, most Ch
58、inese students are reactive rather than pro-active language learners. Instead of actively seeking out opportunities to improve their spoken English, they passively wait for speaking opportunities to come to them and wonder why their English always remains poor. If you have this pro-active outlook, t
59、hen, you will see English opportunities wherever you go.If you dont use your English beyond the classroom you will forget that English you know. Remember USE IT FOR IT! You can learn how to speak English better by speaking English more.How to be a good listenerEveryone loves a good listener. But there are more reasons to develop the skill of listening than
