17、ccident, over work, carelessness, drinking 等名詞。e.g. He died of lung cancer. 他死于肺癌。 The man died from a car accident. 這個男人死于一場交通事故。 He would rather die for his belief. 他寧愿為他的信仰而死。2. He soon realised that many people were dying because they did not get to hospital quickly enough.realise v. 了解; 意識到表示認識
18、到或承認某事物屬實。e.g. He doesnt seem to have realised how serious the matter is. realise還有“實現(xiàn)”的意思, 指實現(xiàn)夢想、計劃、希望等。e.g. At last Mr. Smith realised his plan to spend a holiday in China. dying是die的-ing形式, 常用做形容詞,意思是“垂死的; 即將死亡的”, 常用做表語或定語。e.g. The old man is dying. The doctor tried to save the dying boy.辨析:die是短
19、暫性動詞, 意為“死亡”, 指生命的結(jié)束, 強調(diào)“死”的動作。death是die的名詞形式, 意為“死亡”。dead是形容詞, 意為“死的”, 通常和be動詞連用, 表示狀態(tài)。3. Dr Bethune developed new ways of taking care of the sick. take care of 照顧; 護理 e.g. Dont worry. Ill take care of you. 別擔心。我會照顧你的。 the sick的結(jié)構(gòu)是形容詞前面加上定冠詞,表示復數(shù)概念,泛指某一類人。這類結(jié)構(gòu)做主語時謂語動詞要用復數(shù)形式。如:The young have plenty
20、of opportunities here. 年輕人在這里有大量的機會。 The blind learn skills in special schools. 盲人在特殊學校學習技能。4. Once, he even worked for sixty-nine hours without stopping and managed to save over one hundred lives. manage在句子中的意思是“設(shè)法完成”,后面跟動詞不定式,manage to do sth. 如:He managed to finish his work on time. 他設(shè)法按時完成了他的工作。
21、5. but he continued his work without treating it.continue可作不及物動詞, 意為“繼續(xù); 持續(xù)”。e.g. The rain continued all day.continue可作及物動詞, 意為“繼續(xù)”, 其后可接名詞(短語)、動詞不定式 / 動詞-ing形式等。e.g. We decided to continue our long journey. He wrote books so that they could learn about how he treated the sick.Step 3 Grammar1. 原因狀語從句如果從句表示的是主句行為的原因, 就構(gòu)成原因狀語從句。原因狀語從句由表示原因的連詞引導, 常用的是because。e.g. He failed the exam because he was too careless. 他太粗心了, 所以沒通過考試。since也可以用來引導原因狀
27、語從句, 表示顯然的或已為人所知的理由, 常譯為“因為; 既然”。e.g. Since everyone is here, lets start. 既然大家都到齊了, 我們就開始吧。2. 目的狀語從句如果從句表示的是主句行為的目的, 該從句就是目的狀語從句。目的狀語從句可以由so that引導。e.g. I got up very early so that I could get to school on time. 為了能按時到校, 我很早就起來了。Mulan dressed like a man so that she could join the army.為了能夠參軍, 木蘭穿戴成男
28、人的樣子。 目的狀語從句的特點:從句中一般都含有表示可能性的詞語, 比如could。其他可以表示可能性的詞語還有will, would, can等。3. 結(jié)果狀語從句本模塊中我們接觸到的結(jié)果狀語從句是由so引導的, 表示“由某個行為而導致的結(jié)果”。e.g. He worked too hard, so he fell ill again. 他工作過于勞累, 結(jié)果又病倒了。Step 4 Practice1.
