3、 peoples best wishes for themself .Key words :spring festival custom wishes1 The origin of Spring Festival Spring Festival ,we also called the Chinese New Year ,is China most important festival .Spring Festival is on the first day of the first lunar month each year .Before the eve of the new year ,a

4、ll the people tries to come back home from every corner of the country to join the entire family ,just as they do for Christmas in the west .But in the ancient time ,Spring Festival was not for looking back to the past and looking forward to the new year .It was the day that people defended against

5、a monster called“Nian”, so Spring Festival also called“guonian”,which means keeping the monster Nian away.It is said that Nian resemble a bull with a lions head .Nian aways came out every Spring Festival eve .Because this night had no moon in the sky and food was scarce .Nian would left his den to e

6、at kids ,animals and destroy peoples homes ,fields and crops without any mearcy ,which made people all hated it .Until one time ,Nian appeared and came across a man who wore in fresh red clothes .He was so frightened by the color that escaped immediately .Then he passed by a house in which lights we

7、re so bright and children were playing firecrackers .The bright light and great sound scared Nian deeply .From then on ,people mastered Nians weakness .They stayed together at eve to be brave enough to defended against it .Finally ,Nian never appeared again . This tradition has continued .This is wh

8、y people love red(of course red represents happiness and prosperous) why they play firecrackers ,stay up to chat with each other and keep lights on all night even there is no monster at all .These have became an important part of Chinese traditional customs .1.2 The customs of Spring Festival 1.2.1

9、Dust Elimination“December twenty four ,dusting dust”, our country in many legends era have the Spring Festival customs of dust elimination .Because “dust”and “chen”have a harmonic tone in Chinese .So ,dust elimination means put all poor luck ,bad things go out .Every Spring Festival comes ,every hou

10、sehold will clean everywhere of their house .1.2.2 Luck money On the night of Spring Festival ,the children will pay a new call to elders .Then the elders will give luck money to children .It is said that the luck money can press down “xiesui” .xiesui means bad things and evil sprits .Children get l

11、uck money can spend a year in peace .Parents always wrap red paper around the money .They can give luck money to children in public or hide the luck money under childrens pillow when children fell asleep .1.2.3 Spring Festival couplet Spring Festival couplets are popular .Couplets posted on gatepost

12、s or door panels during Spring Festival. It also called Spring posts , couplet ,taofu subsidiary etc .These are Chinese good luck proverb on red paper ,often with golden trimming and are usually about some happiness ,wealth ,longevity ,a satisfactory marriage ,and more children .Some Spring Festival

13、 couplets are posted or pinned in kitchens or on doors .I know a couplet “Harmonious heaven , harmonious earth , harmonious people ,harmony of Huaxia Beautiful songs ,beautiful dance ,beautiful flowers ,beauty of tonight” . In the countryside pictures of the god of doors and god of wealth are pasted

14、 on front doors to defend against evil spirits and to welcome peace ,good luck and best wishes .1.2.4 Stick grills and Dao Tie “Fu”character Decoration are an important feature of the celebration for the Chinese New Year .In folk people also like to stick up various paper-cuts on the window .The pap

15、er-cuts with intricate patterns are a traditional item for decoration .Compound paper-cuts depict series of folk subjects forming a picture story .These grilles may include birds ,beasts flowers ,fish and scenery .These simple works means good luck and happiness. The Chinese character “Fu”(means ble

16、ssing and happiness) is mandatory .Some people pasted it upside down for the utterance in Chinese describing the character pasted in such a way is pronounced as “Fu dao le”,which means good luck and happiness have arrived .1.2.5 Shousui Shousui is the most important festival custom in China .On the

17、Spring Festival eve, people get together and have dinner together . They said wishes to each other .After dinner ,the whole family sit together to chat .They stay up all night means drive all the bad things and poor luck away .In recent years ,we all see the Spring Festival Gala on CCTV.1.2.6 Bainia

18、n During the first five days of the Spring Festival, relatives, friends exchange Greetings and gifts by visiting. On the morning of the lunar New Years day ,people get up very early and put on their new clothes and new shoes ,which means a new year has begun .Then they call on their relatives and fr

19、iends to wish them a “Happy and prosperous New Year”.The younger generation should call on their elders first ,such as the grandparents and parents ,wishing them “good health”and “l(fā)ong life”.Then the elders will give children some money in red envelope as a New Year gift .After that people call on their relatives ,friends and neighbors.1.2.7 Poetry of Spring Fe
