1、The Fox and the Goat(狐貍和山羊)One day a fox fell into a well. 一天,一只狐貍失足掉到了井里。He tried to get out of it, but he couldnt. 不論他如何掙扎仍沒法爬上來。Just then a goat came to the well. 就在當(dāng)時(shí),一只山羊來到井邊。She wanted to drink some water. 她想喝水。She looked down into the well and saw a fox there. 她往井里看發(fā)現(xiàn)狐貍在井里。The goat said to th

2、e fox, “Is the water good?” 便問狐貍:“井水好不好喝?”“Yes, the water is good,” said the fox. 狐貍說:“是的,井里的水很好喝?!盩he goat jumped into the well and drank much water as she liked. 山羊便不假思索地跳了下去,咕咚咕咚痛飲。After a while the goat said to the fox, “How can we get out of this well?” 一會(huì)兒之后,山羊問狐貍:“我們?cè)趺磸木锍鋈ィ俊盩he fox said, “We

Put your feet on the wall. 狐貍說:“你用前腳扒在井墻上。Then I jump up from your back. 我從你后背跳上井去,After that I will help you out.” 再拉你上來,我們就都得救了?!癘h, its a fine idea,” said the goat. “嗯,真的是個(gè)好辦法?!鄙窖蛘f。And the fox got upon her back and jumped out of the well. 狐貍跳到他的背上,再用力一跳,跳出了井口?!癗ow help me out, please!” said t

4、he goat. “現(xiàn)在請(qǐng)把我救出去吧!”山羊說?!癢hy didnt you think of how to get out, before you jumped in?” The fox said,then ran away. “為什么你在跳進(jìn)井里之前沒有想著如何上來呢?”狐貍說完就跑開了。The story tell us: Think twice before your action. 這個(gè)故事告訴我們:三思而后行。Look at the Sky from the Bottom of a Well 坐井觀天There is a frog. 有一只青蛙住在井底,He lives in a

5、 well and he never goes out of the well. 他從來沒有去過井外面。He thinks the sky is as big as the mouth of the well. 他以為天空就和井口一樣大。One day a crow comes to the well. 一天, 一只烏鴉飛到井邊,He sees the frog and says, “Frog, lets have a talk.” 看見青蛙,就對(duì)它說:“青蛙,咱們聊聊吧。”Then the frog asks, “Where are you from?” 青蛙就問他:“你從哪里來?”“I f

6、ly from the sky,” the crow says. “我從天上上來?!盩he frog feels surprised and says, 青蛙驚訝了,就說:“The sky is only as big as the mouth of the well. “天空就只有這井口這么大,How do you fly from the sky?” 你怎么會(huì)從天上飛老呢?”The crow says, “The sky is very big. 烏鴉說:“天空很大。You always stay in the well, so you dont know the world is big

7、.” 只不過你一直呆在井里,所有不知道世界很大?!盩he frog says, “I dont believe.” 青蛙說:“我不相信?!盉ut the crow says, “You can come out and have a look by yourself.” 烏鴉說:“你可以出來,自己看看嘛?!盨o the frog comes out from the well. 于是青蛙來到井外。He is very surprised. How big the world is! 他十分驚訝,原來世界這么大!Later, people use it to

8、0;describe the ones who have a very narrow view. 后來,人們就用“坐井觀天”來比喻一個(gè)人的思想狹隘。The wolf and the lamb (狼和小羊)Once upon a time a wolf was lapping at a stream. 從前,一只狼在溪流喝水,When he looked up, he saw a lamb drinking a little lower down. 看到一只小羊在下游喝水。"There"s my supper," h

9、e thought. 那是我的晚餐,”狼想,"I will find some excuse to catch it." “我要找一個(gè)借口吃掉他。”Then he called out to the lamb, "How dare you muddle the water?"于是,他惡狠狠地對(duì)小羊說:“你怎么敢攪渾濁了我的水?” "No, master," said the lamb. "我沒有,先生,”小羊回答說,I cannot muddle your water because it runs down from yo

10、u to me." “我在下游喝水,怎么能攪渾濁你喝的水呢?”"Well, then," said the wolf. “那么,”狼見此計(jì)不成,又說道,"Why did you call me bad names this time last year?" “你去年的今天為什么說我的壞話?” "It was impossible," said the lamb. “不可能,”小羊說,"I am only six months old." “我現(xiàn)在才只有六個(gè)月大?!?quot;I don"t ca

11、re," shouted the wolf. “我不管,”狼說,"If it was not you, it must be your father." “如果不是你,就是你的爸爸?!盇fter that he rushed at the poor little lamb and ate it up. 說完,他就沖向小山羊,把他吃掉了。This story tells us: A bad man always has excuse when he wants to do bad thing. 寓意: 當(dāng)一個(gè)壞人想為自己所做的壞事尋找借口時(shí),他不會(huì)在乎這個(gè)借口是否恰

12、當(dāng)。Belling the cat 老鼠開會(huì)Long ago, there was a big cat in the house. 從前,一所房子里面有一只大貓,He caught many mice while they were stealing food. 他抓住了很多偷東西的老鼠。One day the mice had a meeting to talk about the way to deal with their common enemy.一天,老鼠在一起開會(huì)商量如何對(duì)付他們共同的敵人。Some said this, and some said that.會(huì)上大家各有各的主張A

13、t last a young mouse said that he had a good idea.最后,一只小老鼠站出來說他有一個(gè)好主意。"We could tie a bell around the neck of the cat. 我們可以在貓的脖子上綁一個(gè)鈴鐺,Then when he comes near, 那么如果他來到附近,we can hear the sound of the bell, and run away." 我們聽到鈴聲就可以馬上逃跑?!盓veryone was agree with that idea, 大家都贊同這個(gè)建議,but an old

14、 wise mouse said, 這時(shí)一只聰明的老耗子站出來說:"That is a good idea, but who will tie the bell to the cat?" “這的確是個(gè)絕妙的主意,但是誰來給貓的脖子上綁鈴鐺呢?”The mice looked at each other, but nobody spoke. 老鼠們面面相覷,誰也沒有說話。The story tell us:Easier said than done. 寓意: 有些事情說起來容易,做起來卻很難。The fox and the grapesOne hot summer day a

15、 fox was walking through an orchard. He stopped before a bunch of grapes. They were ripe and juicy."Im just feeling thirsty," he thought. So he backed up a few paces, got a running start, jumped up, but could not reach the grapes.He walked back. One, two, three, he jumped up again, but sti

16、ll, he missed the grapes.The fox tried again and again, but never succeeded.
