1.JoeTempershouldhaveknownbetter.Afterallheworksforalargeautoinsurancecompany.Itwon’thurttoleavethekeyinthetruckthisonce,hethought,ashefilledhistankataself-servicegasstation.Butmomentslater,ashewaspayingthemoney,hesawthetruckbeingdrivenaway.Q:WhatdosetheauthorthinkJoeTempershouldbetoblamefor?A.Heshouldhaveequippedhiscarwithasecuritysystem.B.Heshouldnothavehiscarrefilledatthegasstation.C.Heshouldnothavebeensosureofhimself.D.heshouldhaveshutdowntheengineofhiscar.2.Whenolderpeoplebecomesenile(tooweakandilltocareforthemselves),theycreatebigproblemsfortheirfamilies.Inthepastandinsometraditionalcultures,theywouldbecaredforuntiltheydied.Today,withmostmembersofahouseholdworkingorinschool,thereisoftennooneathomewhocancareforasickorweakperson.Tomeetthisneed,agreatmanynursinghomeshavebeenbuilt.Thereareoftenprofit-makingorganizations,althoughsomearesupportedbyreligiousandothernonprofitgroups.Whileafewoftheseinstitutionsaregood,mostofthemaresimply“dumpinggrounds”forthedyinginwhich“care”isgivenbypoorlypaid,overworked,andunder-skilledpersonnel.Q:Whichofthefollowingbestdescribestheauthor’sattitudetowardsmostofthenursinghomes?A.SympatheticB.ApprovingC.OptimisticD.Critical3.“Theanimals’welfareshouldbeveryimportantbecausewithoutthemtherewillbenoecotourism,”saidRochelleConstantineoftheUniversityofAucklandinNewZealand.Q:WhatRochelleConstantinesaidinthelastparagraphimpliesthat_____.A.ifpeoplewanttogethighincome,theymustdevelopecotourismB.animalsshouldhavetheirownwayoflifeC.animalsareman’sgoodfriendsD.Ecotourismshouldbestoppedtoprotecttheanimals4.Sadly,however,thereisanothersidetothepicture.Thecreativityofsciencehasbeenemployedindoingdamagetomankind.Theapplicationofscienceandtechnologytothedevelopmentandproductionofweaponsofmassdestructionhascreatedarealdangertothecontinuedexistenceofthehumanraceonthisplanet.Wehaveseenthishappeninthecaseofnuclearweapons.AlthoughtheiractualusehassofaroccurredonlyintheSecondWorldWar,thenumberofnuclearweaponsthatproducedandmadereadyforusewassolargethatiftheweaponshadactuallybeenused,theresultcouldhavetheruinofthehumanrace,aswellasofmanykindsofanimals.Q:Fromthefourthparagraph,wecaninferthat_____.A.agreatmanynuclearweaponswereactuallyusedforwarB.alargenumberofnuclearweaponsshouldhavebeenusedforwarC.theauthorisdoubtfulaboutthehugenumberofnuclearweaponsontheearthD.theauthorisanxiousaboutthehugenumberofnuclearweaponsontheearth5.Thereismuchdiscussiontodayaboutwhethereconomicgrowthisdesirable….Thosewhocriticizeeconomicgrowtharguethatwemustslowdown…..Peoplewhowantmoreeconomicgrowth,ontheotherhand,arguethatevenatthepresentgrowthratetherearestillmanypoorpeopleintheworld.Tofindananswer,economistsandthebusinesscommunitymustpayattentiontotheseproblemsandcontinuediscussingthemwithoneanother.Q:Wemayinferfromthepassagethat______.A.theauthorisforeconomicgrowthB.theauthorisagainstcontinuedeconomicgrowthC.theauthorisverymuchworriedabouttheeconomicproblemsD.theauthordescribethecaseasitis6.Tomysurprise,Iwasneitherarrestednortoldtoshutup.Indeed,nobodytookanynoticeatall.Thenanoldman,withoutstopping,surreptitiously(暗中地)tossedapennyintomyhatasthoughgettingridofsomeguiltyevidence.Q:Thefirstmanwhogavehimmoney_____.A.wastoobusytostopC.droppedthemoneybymistakeB.wantedtogetridofhimD.didnotwanttoattractattention7.However,Dr.MichaelA.McDanielemphasizedthatthesefindingsrepresentageneraltrend,andpeoplewithsmallheadsshouldnotautomaticallybelievedtheyarelessintelligent.Forinstance,AlbertEinstein’sbrainwas“notparticularlylarge,”McDanielnoted.“There’ssomerelationshipbetweenbrainsizeandintelligenceonaverage,butthere’splentyofroomforexceptions.”Hesaid.Q:BymentioningAlbertEinstein,thewriterwantedtoshow_____.A.

Howeverobviousthesefactsmayappearatfirstglance,theyareactuallynotsoobviousastheyseemexceptwhenwetakespecialpainstothinkaboutthesubject.A.tryveryhardB.takeourtimeC.areveryunhappyD.feelespeciallypainfulWilliamShakespearesaid,“Thewebofourlifeisofamingledyarn,goodandilltogether.”A.simpleB.mixedC.sadD.happyTeachingandlearningaretwoentirelydifferentprocesses.Theydifferinkindandfunction.……Teachingisalsoapublicactivity:itcanbeseenandobserved.……forlearningisanoccupationofthemind,andthatprocessisnotopentopublicscrutiny.A.unbeliefB.controlC.inquiryD.observationWhenenoughwatervaporcondenses,dropletsformintheair.Thesedropletsscatteredlightandpresto!Acloudisvisible.A.swiftB.pureC.prettyD.colorfulWhencomparingmenandwomeninthematteroffashion,theconclusionstobedrawnareobvious.Dotheconstantlychangingfashionsofwomen’sclothes,onewonders,reflectbasicqualitiesofchangeandunsteadiness?Menaretooclevertoletthemselvesbecheatedbyfashiondesigners.A.women’sconstantchangeinthechoiceofclothingisoftenlaughedatB.womenarebetterabletoputupwithdiscomfortC.menarealsoexploitedgreatlybyfashiondesignersD.menaremorereasonableinthematteroffashionItwasnightinthedream,andIcouldseeonlymyhandsonthesteeringwheelandwasilluminatedbythetruck’sheadlight.A.giveoutB.provide(sth)withlightC.noticewithcareD.watchoutTheautomaticreaderswerereadingtwiceasfastastheothers,allstilloutscoringthemonaccuracy,comprehensionandvocabulary.A.scoringhigherthanB.scoringunfavorablyinC.scoringlowerthanD.scoringashighasPeoplewhowantmoreeconomicgrowth,ontheotherhand,arguethat……Theseproponentsofeconomicgrowthbelievethatonlymoregrowthcancreatethecapitalneededtoimprovethequalityoflifeintheworld.A.peoplewhoargueagainstsomethingB.peoplewhoargueforsomethingC.argumentsinsupportofsomethingD.strongoppositeopinionsTeatanxietyisaveryrealproblemformanypeople.WhatIhearstudentssayoverandoveragainis“Mymindwentblank.”A.Theirmindfailedtoworkwhenfacedwithatest.B.Theyhaddifficultyfocusingonthetest.C.Theycouldnotthinkofwaytogetridoftestanxiety.D.Theyfelthelplessbeforeatest.(參考答案:1~5ABDAD6~9BABA)4.

1.Hairfolliclesonthescalprarelypushoutmorethan0.5mmofnewhairfiberadayandafollicleisactiveforatmostsixyearsbeforefallingdormant.Afterafewmonths,itreactivatesitselfandproducesanewhair.Q:Accordingtothisparagraph,whichofthefollowingistrue?A.Hairfolliclesonthescalpcanpushoutmorethan0.5mmofnewhairfiberaday.B.Ahairfollicleisnotalwaysactive.C.Onpushingoutahair,thefolliclewillbeofnouseanymore.D.Afteryearsofrest,thefolliclewillreactivateitselfagainandproduceanewhair.2.JaneAusten,afamousEnglishwriter,wasbornonDecember,16,1775,anddiedonJuly18,1817…….Shepaidtwolastvisitshereduringthelastfiveyearsoftheeighteenthcenturyandfrom1801to1806,Bathwasherhome.Q:JaneAustenpaidtwolongvisitstoBath_____.A.inherearlytwentiesB.inherearlyteensC.inherlatetwentiesD.inherlateteens3.TheSaharaFestivalisacelebrationoftheveryrecentpast.Thethree-dayeventisnotfixedtothesamedateseachyear,butgenerallytakesplaceinNovemberorDecember.Itiswellattendedbytourists.Butevenbetterattendedbylocals.Q:TheSaharaFestivalisafestivalwhich_____.A.hasaverylonghistoryinNorthAfricaB.isheldinthesameplaceonthesamedayC.isattendedmainlybythepeopleintheSaharaD.iscelebratedmostlybytravelersfromdifferentcountries.4.Someplants,suchastheoaktree,havethickandhardleavesthataredifficultforanimalstoeat.Somegrassesmaycontainasandymaterial;eatingsuchgrasseswearsdowntheanimal’steeth.Q:Todefendthemselves,oaktreesuse_____.A.chemicalsmeansB.physicalmeansC.bitterchemicalsD.sandymaterials5.Pollywanderedovertheroughfieldlookingforthesmallerpotatoes……Thenshecaughtsightofsomethingelse.Itlookedlikeapieceofcoloredstone.Pollypickeditupandthoughthowprettyitwas.Shecouldseeapatternonit:apictureofafishandapartofaleaf.Shescrapedthesoilawayaroundherfeetandfoundthatshewasstandingonwhatseemedtobeapieceofpavement.Stucktoanotherpieceofstonewassomethingsmallandroundlikeabutton.Sherealizeditwasanoldcoin.Q:WhenPollywaslookingforpotatoes,_____caughtherattentionfirst.A.apartofaleafB.anoldcoinC.apieceofpavementD.abutton6.TheWorldwatch-Institutesaysmostofthesepeoplewillliveindevelopingcountrieswherethereisnotenoughlandtofeedeveryone.Itsaysfoodsecurityinthefuturewilldependongovernmentsinvestingmoreontrainsandbicyclesystemandlessonroadsandcarsystems.Q:Accordingtothepassagemoneyindevelopingcountriesshouldbeusedto_____.A.buildtransportationsystemsthatbenefittherichpeopleB.buildmoretransportationsystemoftrainsandbicyclesthanroadsC.buildtransportationsystemofbicyclesD.buildtransportationsystemsofcarsandtrucks7.Finally,itmakessensetopurchaseasafetytriangleandanemergencyplasticwindscreenbeforeleaving.Makesureallyourfellowtravelersknowwhereyourdocumentsare;giveoneasparesetofkeys—andputintothebackofyourwalletalargebanknotefortheemergencieswhereacreditcardwon’tdo.Q:Anothersensiblepieceofadviceformotoristsisto_____.A.givetheirtravelingcompaniesalltheirdocumentsB.keepasparesetofkeysC.carryextracashforemergenciesD.useaplasticwindscreen8.LastseasonhewastheNBA’sRookieoftheYear;betterbyfarthanalltheskepticsthoughthewouldbe.Nowheisonthebrinkofmuchmore.“It’sweirdtalkingabouta20-year-oldbeingagreatplayer,butheisagreatplayer,andhecouldbethebestever,”saysDenverNuggetscouch.“He’stheexceptiontoalmosteveryrule.Hismaturityisthethingsthat’sthemoststartlingabouthim.Hisbasketballsensehasgottenhimtowhereheis.”“Nowheisonthebrinkofmuchmore.”Means“_____”.A.HehasgotmanymorescoresB.HeisthoughtmoreofC.HeisonthewayofbecomingthebesteverD.HecanneverbebetterthannowAccordingtothewriter,whatisthemostimportantfo
