HowtoPreparefortheFutureEmploymentItistruethatseekingajobisgettingmoreandmoredifficultintheincreasinglycompetitivejobmarket.Howtoprepareforthefutureemploymentisahottopicamongcollegestudents.Somebelievethatwemustworkhardtoensureagoodacademicperformanceandtakepart-timejobstoenrichourworkingexperience.Othersarguethattolandajobaftergraduationwehavetoknowsomejobseekingskills,suchaswritinganeffectiveresumewithacoverletterandknowingtheinterviewskills.AsfarasI’mconcerned,firstofall,weneedtofindtheanswerstothefollowingsimplequestions:Whatkindofjobdowewant?Arewequalifiedforit?Andthen,weshouldfindthegapbetweenourqualificationsandjobrequirements.Finally,weneedaplantofillthegap.Whenwearequalifiedforthejob,we’rereadyforfutureemployment.LecturesandDiscussionsThereisaheateddebateovertheadvantageoflecturesanddiscussions,thetwomainstylesofteachinginuniversity.Itiscommonlyacceptedthatlecturescanhelpstudentslearnmoreandquickly.Incontrast,othersholdthatdiscussioncanstimulatethestudentstolearnbythemselves.Thosewhopreferlecturessuggestthatattendingalecturecansaveyourprecioustime.Intheirview,thismethodteachesstudentsthevalueofdisciplineandself-control.However,thoseliketheteachingmethodofdiscussionarguethattheteacherusuallyguidestheclasswithoutdominatingit.Theybelievethat(yī)engagementinadiscussionhelpstudentsdeveloptheabilitytoanalyzeandsolveproblems.Inmyopinion,differentmethodshavedifferentadvantages.Comparedwithlectures,Ilikediscussionsbetterbecausediscussionsaremoreflexibleandstudentscandeveloptheirproblem-solvingskillsthroughdiscussionwiththeirclassmat(yī)esandtheteachers.SilenceIsNotAlwaysGoldManypeoplebelievethatinthepopularsaying,“Silenceisgold.”becausetheyregardsilenceasameritandbelievethat(yī)silencecanbringthembenefitsandavoidsometroubles.However,ifyoualwayskeepsilent,youwillprobablymissmanygoldenopportunitiesinsteadofobtainingthegoldofsilence.Inthemodernsociety,communicationisvitalforsuccess.Youneedtoexpressyouropinionsandideas,andifyouwantsomething,askforit.Let’stakeapayriseforinstance.Ifyouworkhardandhaveagreatachievement,andyouthinkyoudeserveapayrise,whatwillyoudo?Keepingsilencewouldmakeyourbossbelievethatyouaresatisfiedwithyoursalary,andthusyoumightmisstheopportunityofgettingapayrise.Itisthesamewithpromotion.Fromwhat(yī)wehavediscussedabove,weshouldunderstandthat“Silenceisgold.”isnotalwaysrightandyoumightmissalotandgainmuchlessifyoukeepsilentallthetime.OnI(lǐng)ncomeSourcesbetweenChineseandAmericanStudentsAsshowninthetable,incomesourcesofChinesestudentsarequitedifferentfromthoseofAmericanstudents.Chinesestudentsgettheirmoneymainlyfromtheirparents,whileAmericanstudentsrelievetheirparents’financialburdenbyearninghalfoftheirmoney.Therearethreereasonsforthedifference.First,differentvaluesproducedifferentat(yī)titudestowardfinancialindependence.Second,mostChineseparentsthinkitistheirdutytosupporttheirchildren’seducationandtakingpart-timejobisawasteoftimethatcouldotherwisebeusedforstudy.Bycontrast,inAmerica,manyparentsencouragetheirkidstofinancetheireducation.Finally,onlyafewstudentsinChineseuniversitieshavetheopportunitiestogetscholarship,butinAmericaitisquiteadifferentstory.Inmyopinion,Chinesestudentsneedtoworktogetherwiththeirparentstodeveloptheirself-dependence,dealingwithmoreoftheirownfinancialproblemsbytheirown.AdvantagesofSavingMoneyManypeoplearefortunateenoughtomakemoremoneythantheyimmediatelyneed.Whatshouldtheydowiththisextraincome?Moatpeoplejustspenditallonthingstheydesire,andsomepeopledecidetosaveit.Savingtheextraincomeisofgreatsignificance.Firstofall,bysavingmoney,peoplemaygivethemselvesmoresecurity.Theycannotpredictthefuture;perhapsonedaytheywillbejobless.Theirsavingscansparethemagreat(yī)dealofsufferingandhelptoseethemthroughahardtime.Inaddition,savingmoneyallowspeopletobuildupalargesum.Finally,thepracticeofsavinghelpspeopledevelopthehabitofsettinggoalsandplanningfortheirfuture.Asacollegestudent,Iagreewiththeadvantagesofsavingmoney,andIthinkifwelearntosaveourextramoney,wecangainmoreadvantagesinthefuture,leadingmoresecureand,thus,happierlives.PracticeMakesPerfectThereisafamoussaying,“Practicemakesperfect”,whichmeansthatwehavetopracticeagainandagainwheneverwewanttobeanexpertinaspecificfield.Let’stakeEnglishlearningasanexample.Ifyouwanttobeanefficientandeffectivereader,youshouldknowenoughwordsandsomeimportantreadingskills,butmostimportantly,youhavetoreadalotandpracticethewordsandskills.ItisthesamewithEnglishwriting.Withoutenoughpractice,it’simpossibletowriteagoodarticle.Anothergoodcaseinpointisswimming.Youmayhaveagoodcoachandknowthetechniquesofswimmingwell,butwithoutswimminginthepooltimeandtimeagain,youcan’tswimatall,letaloneswimwell.Fromwhatwehavediscussedabove,weshouldhaveunderstandtheproverbbetter.Andwecanalsoconcludethat“practicemakesperfect”.FoodSafetyCurrently,manyproblemsconcerningthesafetyoffoodhavepoppedup.Asforme,Ibelievethatatleastthreefactorsaccountforthisissue.First,Ifindthatmanyfoodproducersaredrivenbyprofits,doingillegalthings.Theyaimtogainmoremoneyattheexpenseofconsumers’health.Second,theoveruseofagriculturalpesticidehasresultedinthedegradationoffoodquality.Theexcessivepesticideisanenormoushealthhazardtopeople.Furthermore,somefoodproducerseveninjecthormonesintodomesticanimalstomakethemgrowmorequickly,hopingtoearnmoreprofitsinalesstime.Asaresult,people’shealthhasbeenseriouslyhurt.Allinall,foodsafetyisinsuchgreatdangerthatweallshouldtakeaction,passingmorelawsandimplementingthemmoreeffectivelysoastoavoidunsafefood.Students’PursuitofFamousBrandsNowadaysmanycollegestudentstendtopursuefamousbrands.Fromclothestomobilephones,evenstudydeviceslikeelectronicdictionaries,theyareinclinedtobuyfamousbrands.Moreover,somestudentsfrompoorfamiliesbegintofollowthisconsumptiontrendaswell.Thisphenomenonhasarousedwideattention.Thefollowingreasonscanaccountforcollegestudents’preferenceforfamousbrands.Aboveall,inmanycollegestudents’eyes,afamousbrandisasymbolofsophisticationandtaste.Theyexpectotherstoadmiretheirupperclassandgoodtaste.What’smore,inmodernsociety,famousbrandstosomeextentareequaltofashion,whichhasagreat(yī)attractiontocollegestudents.Besides,theirbeingspoiledbytheirparentshelpsformthisimproperconsumptionhabit.Inmyeyes,itisirrationalforcollegestudentstopursuefamousbrands.Afterall,mostoffamousbrandsarefarbeyondtheirconsumptionability.Besides,itisnitfamousbrandsbutaperson’snoblecharacterthatreallymakeshimupper-class.Therefore,collegestudentsshouldattachmoreimportancetocultivatingagoodcharacterrat(yī)herthanpursuingfamousbrands.ShouldPrivateCarsBeEncouragedinChinaAsbothofindustryandeconomyhasbeengreat(yī)lydevelopedinChina,thenumberofpeoplewhoownprivatecarsisontherise.Andtherearetwodifferentviewsonthisphenomenon.Somepeoplearguethatprivatecarscanbringconvenienceandmobilitytotheowners.Ifmorepeoplebuycars,automobileindustrywilldevelopdramatically.What’smore,thegrowthofautomobileindustrycantriggertheboomofotherimportantindustriessuchasironandsteel,energyandtechnologicalapplication.Inshort,theyareinfavorofdevelopingprivatecars.However,othersholdthatautomobileswillgiverisetoaseriesofproblemssuchasmoreseriousenvironmentalpollution,moretrafficaccidentsandmoreenergyconsumption.Besides,thereareabout1.4billionpeopleinChina.Ifeveryfamilyownsacar,therewouldbetoomanycarsrunningonourland,whichwillcertainlyleadtotrafficcongestionandposethreattotheexistenceofpeople.Therefore,theyareagainstdevelopingprivatecarsinChina.TheTrafficRegulationsTrafficregulationsareindispensabletocitylife.Inordertoletpeoplefeelsafeonthestreet,allvehiclesmustkeeptotherightside;carsmustkeepwithinthespeedlimits;peoplemustkeeptothesidewalk.Inalllargecities,pedestriansarenotallowedtocrossthestreetexceptat(yī)thecrossingwhenthepolicemanortrafficlightssignalthemtodoso.However,theserulesaretoooftenignoredbypeopleinsomecities.Pedestrianscrossthestreetanywhereorevenstrollleisurelyinthemiddleofthestreetwithoutpayingat(yī)tentiontothetrafficonthemove.Carsortrucksracealongbusystreetintotaldisregardofthesafetyofothers.Thestreamofbicyclesisespeciallydangerouswhentheydashaboutalongtheseaofmovingvehiclesandpeople.Sometimestheyrushoutunexpectedlyfromasidelane,givingpeopleastart.Sometimestheyknockpeopledown,causinginjurytothem.Andworstofall,sometimestheymightgetkilledintheirhastetocrossthepathofabus.Accordingtostatistics,bicyclesaccountformostoftheroadaccidentsincities.Tocopewiththesituation,thepolicehavestartedacampaigntomakestreetssafertothepublic.Televisionisveryeffectiveinwarningpeopleofthedangerfordisobeyingtrafficregulations.Penaltiesrangingfromfinestoimprisonmentwillbecarriedoutagainstoffenders.Wehopethingswillbecomebetterwithmoreandmorepeoplebeginningtorealizetheimportanceofobservingtrafficregulat(yī)ions.Internet—Two-edgedSwordInternetisplayinganincreasingimportantroleinpeople’slife.Asanewborninformationdeliveringsystem,Internethasmadevariousinformationavailableatourfinger’stip.Forexample,bysurfingthenet,researcherscangetagloballookatthelatestdevelopmentintheirprofessionalfields.Besides,Internetservesasthemostconvenientmeansofcommunication.ThroughInternet,peoplecandiscussvariousproblemsandthosewhosharecommonviewscanmakefriends.Internetisalsoafaithfulaidinourdailylifesincepeoplecangoshoppingandgetmedicalserviceonline.SoInternetinindeedoneofthemostinterestingandimportantinventionsmanhasevermade.Butjustasacoinhastwosides,Internethasitsowndrawbackswhichshouldbeneglected.First,itcostsalargeamountofmoneytoconstructthesystem.Second,itissometimesdifficultforpeopletofindtherightinformationtheyarelookingforsincethereistoomuchinformationonthenet.Finally,itisalsodifficulttoprotectthenetfromtheinvasionofcriminals.Butweshouldnotgiveupeatingforfearofchoking.Ithinkweshouldfurtherdevelopthenetandexertsupervisionoveritsothatitcanbenefitboththecountryandthepeople.JobProblemsforGraduatesNowadays,only58%ofcollegegraduatescouldfindajobintheirspecialty.Whydocollegegraduatesfinditincreasinglydifficulttogetarewardingjob?Onereasonperhapsisthatmanycollegesanduniversitiesfailtoadapttheircoursestothedevelopmentofsociety.Degreecoursesofferedinsomeinstitutionsofhigherlearningaresooutdated,irrelevantandimpracticalthatthestudentsthemselvesfindithardtotransformtheirbookknowledgeintorealjobskills.Second,thereisanoversupplyofgraduatesincertainfields.Asaresult,manygraduatescannotentertheprofessionsforwhichtheyaretrainedandhavetotakeotherjobsavailable.Collegegraduat(yī)esarevaluableresourcesofourcountry.Theproblemtheyencounterinjobhuntingdeservesmoreattention.C
