TestingIntroductionofTask33Afteryouhavereadthepassageandthenlistenedtothediscussion,youwillbeaskedaquestionaboutwhatyouhavereadandheard.Forexample,theremaybeareadingpassagethatdescribesplanstomakeanewuniversityruleandaconversationinwhichaprofessorandastudentarediscussingtherule.Ifintheconversationthestudentthinksthenewruleisabadidea,youwouldbeaskedtostatewhatthestudent’sopinionisandtoexplainthereasonsthestudentgivesforholdingthatopinionusinginformationfromboththereadingandthelistening.4Thistasktestsyourabilitytointegrateinformationfromtwo

sources—thereadingpassageandthelistening—andtosummarizesomeaspectofwhatyouhaveheard.Thereadingpassageprovidesthecontextthatallowsyoutounderstandwhatthespeakersaretalkingabout.Thespeakerswillgenerallyrefertothereadingpassageonlyindirectly.Therefore,asyoureadthereadingpassage,youshouldpayattentiontoanumberofthings:thedescriptionoftheproposal(whathasbeenproposed,planned,changed,etc.),andthereasonsthataregivenfororagainsttheproposal.Thiswillhelpyouunderstandwhatitisthatthetwospeakersarediscussingasyoulistentotheirconversation.第7頁/共34頁4.2
