Hello,Everyone!I’mgladtopresentmylessonplanhere.Todaymytopicis“Whatwereyoudoingwhentherainstormcame”I’mgoingtointroducemylessonfromthefollowingaspects:theanalysisofteachingmaterialandstudents,teachingaims,teachingkeypointsanddifficultpoints,teachingandstudyingmethods,teachingproceduresandblackboarddesign.

I.Analysisofteachingmaterial.

Firstly,let’sfocusontheanalysisofteachingmaterial.

ThislessonisfromPEPSECONDARYENGLISHBOOK,thesecondofGrade8,Unit5SectionBWhatwereyoudoingwhentherainstormcameThisisareadinglesson,itplaysaveryimportantroleinthisunit.ThroughthislessonSswillimprovetheirdifferentabilitiesinclass,especiallytheabilityofreading.Theywilllearnmoreabouthowtodescribeunforgettableevents.

Secondly,itisaboutstudents.OurstudentsareinGrade8.TheyhavelearnedpresentprogressivesincetheywereinGrade7.AndmostofthemcancommunicatewithothersinEnglish,usingthesimplewordsandexpressions.it’sdifficultforsomeofthemtodescribeawholepasteventusingPastProgressivetense.Andstudentsmaybenotfamiliarwiththetwoevents,soI’llprovidesomebackgroundknowledgewhennecessarytoarousestudents’learninginterests.Ssmaybenotactiveinclassbecausetheyareafraidofmakingmistakes.

BasedontheNewCurriculumStandardandtheanalysisofteachingmaterialandstudents,Isetthefollowingteachingaims.

Knowledgeaim:

Bytheendofthislesson,studentscanmastertheimportantwordsandexpressions,andtheycanknowabouttheinformationofDr,MartinLutherKingandtheSeptember11thattack.TheyalsocanusethePastProgressivetenseinthepropersituation.

Abilityaim:

Studentscanpredict“Whatisthepassageabout”withthehelpofthetitleandthepictures.Studentsdeveloptheabilityoffastreading,intensivereading,lookingforinformation,gettingthemainideas,catchingthekeywordsandmakinguseofinformationaccordingtothecontext.

Emotionalaim:(1)Toopposetheracismandterrorism.(2).Torealizetheimportanceofjusticeandpeace.(3).Studentslearntolovepeace,loveworld,lovelife.

IV.Analysisofkeyanddifficultpoints.

Accordingtotheaboveanalysis,IsetthefollowingTeachingkeypointsanddifficultpoints.

Thekeypointsis:Tograspthenewwordsandexpressions.Toknowthedetailsandgeneralideaofthepassage.

Andthedifficultpointsis:Learntousesimplepasttenseandpastprogressivetensetodescribepastevents.

1.Teachingapproaches:Iwilladopttask-basedlanguageteachingapproach,guideddiscoveryteachingapproachandcommunicativelanguageteachingapproach.

Step1Leadingin

Inthissection,Iwillshowsomevideosaboutimportanteventsandhaveafreetalk.Leadinthetextthroughtwodates.Thisstepcanarousethestudents’interestandencouragethemtotakeanactivepartinclass,ontheotherhand,italsoaimstohelpthestudentscleanupsomeofthewordbarriersinthenextstepsaboutreadingandwriting.

Step2Pre-reading

Lookatthetitleandpicturestoguess“What’sthepassageabout”.Thenprovidesomebackgroundknowledgetoletstudentshaveabetterunderstandingaboutthetwoevents.Askthevolunteerstoreadthepassageandthenreaditaloudtogether.

Step3While-reading

IntheFastreading,Studentsshouldreadpassagefasttofindoutthemainideaandthenanswerthequestion.

AboutIntensivereading,I’llguidetheSstoreadthepassagecarefullyandtakesomeimportantnotes.Therearetwotasksforstudents.

Task1istoreadparagraph1andparagraph2,thenfillintheblanksinpairs.

Task2istoreadtheothertwoparagraphs,thenanswerthequestionsingroups.

Step4:After-reading:

IwillleadthestudentstoreadthepassageagainandtheydiscusswiththeirdeskmatestojudgeTorFinactivity2c.

Next,thestudentswillbedividedintosomegroupsagroupofthreeorfour:Thegroupmemberscanworktogethertoaccomplishactivity2d.

Themostdifficultthingistoretellthepassage.Studentscantalkabouttheirretellingsintheirgroup.Theneachgroupchooseareportertoshowtheirwork.Iwilltrytoencourageandpraisethemmore.

Step5:Summaryandhomework

Iwillaskstudentstorecallwhatwehavelearnttoday,mainlyfocusonthekeywordsandthesentencestodescribepastevents.ThenIwouldliketosendawordtoallofthestudents:Rememberandvalueeverythingwehaveowned.Asforhomework,studentswillwriteashortpassageabouttheirunforgettableevents.Givestudentssomehintsaboutwordsandsentences.Thisstepcanhelpstudentspromotingwritingbyreading.
