annually(1317billionunits).Consumptionintheresidentialsectorislikelytodoubleby
2030aspertheprojectionsofthe20th
ElectricPowerSurveyofIndia.Thiswillbefuelledbygrowingpercapitaelectricity
consumption,rapidurbanisation,andareturntonormalcyaftertheCOVID-19pandemic.
Shiftingexistingandfuturehousehold
electricityneedstocleanenergyremainscriticaltoachievingIndia’snationally
determinedcontributions(NDCs)targetsanddeepdecarbonisationoftheeconomyinthelongrun.

Overtheyears,theMNREandstateshave
introducedaslewofpolicy,regulatoryand
marketinitiativestopromoteRTSamong
residentialconsumers.Someofthesekey
initiativesincludetheNationalRooftopSolarPortal,whichhasasimplifiedRTSadoptionprocedure,directbenefittransferforcapital
subsidyundertheCentralFinancial
