大學(xué)英語寫作中的母語負(fù)遷移現(xiàn)象研究及其對(duì)策的中期報(bào)告AbstractThephenomenonofmothertonguenegativetransferincollegeEnglishwritinghasbeenalong-standingissue.Thisstudyaimedtoinvestigatethecausesofmothertonguenegativetransferandproposeeffectivestrategiestomitigateitsnegativeimpacts.Throughaliteraturereviewandaquestionnairesurvey,thestudyfoundthatthelackofsystematicandeffectivelanguageinput,inappropriateteachingmethods,andtheinterferenceofthemothertonguewerethemaincausesofmothertonguenegativetransfer.Tomitigatethenegativeimpactsofmothertonguenegativetransfer,wesuggestthatmoreattentionshouldbepaidtosystematicallyandeffectivelyimprovestudents'languageinput;optimizeteachingmethods,especiallybystrengtheningstudents'abilitytocompareandcontrast;andprovidetargetedwritingexercisesthatchallengestudentstoseparatetheirmothertonguefromEnglish.IntroductionWiththeglobalizationoftheworldeconomyandculture,Englishhasbecomeanessentialtoolforinternationalcommunication.Therefore,collegestudents'Englishwritingskillshavebecomeincreasinglyimportant.However,despitemanyyearsofEnglishlanguageeducation,themothertonguenegativetransferphenomenoninEnglishwritinghasbeenastubbornproblem.ThemothertonguenegativetransferphenomenonreferstothesituationwherethemothertongueusagehabitsandpatternsaretransferredtoEnglishwriting,leadingtoinappropriateorincorrectexpressions.Toalleviatethisproblem,itisnecessarytothoroughlyinvestigatethecausesofmothertonguenegativetransferanddevelopeffectivestrategies.LiteratureReviewMothertonguenegativetransferisacommonphenomenoninsecondlanguageacquisitionresearch.Studieshaveshownthatmothertonguenegativetransferarisesprimarilyfromthedifferencesbetweenthemothertongueandthetargetlanguage(Ellis,1997).AccordingtoGassandSelinker(1994),thetransferoflinguisticinformationbetweenlanguagesdependsonthesimilaritiesanddifferencesbetweenthem.Forinstance,thenegativetransferofChinesestudentsismainlyrelatedtotheinterferenceoftheChineselanguage.Inaddition,BaoandLiu(2016)foundthatthemothertonguenegativetransferproblemcouldbealleviatedbyimprovingstudents'languageinputandoptimizingteachingmethods.ResearchMethodsThisstudyutilizedaquestionnairesurveytocollectdataonthecausesofmothertonguenegativetransferandstudents'Englishwritingperformance.Thesurveywasconductedamong100seniorcollegestudentsmajoringinnon-Englishdegrees.TheparticipantswereaskedtoevaluatethefrequencyandtypesoferrorstheymadeinEnglishwritingandprovidefeedbackontheirlearningexperienceregardinghowteacherscouldbetterhelpthemovercomemothertonguenegativetransfer.ResultsTheresultsshowedthatthelackofsystematicandeffectivelanguageinputwastheprimarycauseofmothertonguenegativetransfer,followedbytheinterferenceofthemothertongue.Additionally,theinappropriateteachingmethodswerealsoasignificantfactorinmothertonguenegativetransfer.Theparticipantsreportedthattheirteachersdidnotfocusenoughondevelopingstudents'criticalthinkingandanalysisskills,whicharecrucialforsuccessfulEnglishwriting.DiscussionTomitigatethenegativeimpactsofmothertonguenegativetransfer,werecommendthefollowingstrategies.First,teachersshouldpaymoreattentiontosystematicallyandeffectivelyimprovestudents'languageinput.Second,teachersshouldoptimizetheirteachingmethods.Theyshouldfocusonstrengtheningstudents'abilitytocompareandcontrast,whichiscrucialforsuccessfulEnglishwriting.Finally,teachersshouldprovidetargetedwritingexercisesthatchallengestudentstoseparatetheirmothertonguefromEnglish.ConclusionThisstudyhasinvestigatedthecausesofmothertonguenegativetransferincollegeEnglishwritingandproposedeffectivestrategiestomitigateitsnegativeimpacts.Thefindingsofthisstudysuggestthatthelackofsystematicandeffectivelanguageinput,inappropriateteachingmethods,andtheinterferenceofthemothertonguearetheprimarycausesofmothertonguenegativetransfer.Mitigati
