釋意理論視角下的記者招待會漢譯英口譯策略研究的中期報告MidtermReportontheStudyofInterpretingStrategiesinTranslatingJournalistPressConferencesfromChinesetoEnglishBasedontheExplanatoryTranslationTheoryAbstractThisstudyaimstoexploretheinterpretingstrategiesemployedbyinterpretersintranslatingjournalistpressconferencesfromChinesetoEnglishbasedontheExplanatoryTranslationTheory.Throughaliteraturereviewandanalysisoftranscriptsofactualpressconferences,severalkeystrategieshavebeenidentified,includingsemanticmapping,explanatorytranslation,andculturaladaptation.ThestudyfoundthatthesestrategiesareessentialforproducinganaccurateandeffectivetranslationthatmaintainstheintegrityoftheoriginalmessagewhilealsomakingitaccessibletoanEnglish-speakingaudience.However,thestudyalsosuggeststhatmoreresearchisneededtofullyunderstandtheeffectivenessofthesestrategiesindifferentcontextsandtoidentifyotherpotentialstrategiesthatmaybeusefulintranslatingjournalistpressconferences.IntroductionJournalistpressconferencesareanessentialtoolfordeliveringinformationtothepublic,andinterpretingplaysacrucialroleinmakingthatinformationaccessibletonon-Chinese-speakingaudiences.However,interpretinginthiscontextpresentsuniquechallengesthatrequireinterpreterstoemployarangeofstrategiestoensuretheaccuracyandeffectivenessoftheirtranslations.ThisstudyaimstoexplorethestrategiesemployedbyinterpretersintranslatingjournalistpressconferencesfromChinesetoEnglishbasedontheExplanatoryTranslationTheory.BackgroundTheExplanatoryTranslationTheory,firstproposedbyChristianeNord,emphasizestheimportanceofunderstandingtheculturalandlinguisticdifferencesbetweenthesourceandtargetlanguagesinthetranslationprocess.Thistheorypositsthattranslationisnotsimplythetransferofwordsfromonelanguagetoanother,butratheranactofcommunicationthatrequiresanunderstandingoftheintendedmeaning,culturalcontext,andcommunicativeintentionofthesourcetext.MethodologyThisstudyemployedaqualitativeresearchmethodthatinvolvedaliteraturereviewandananalysisoftranscriptsofactualpressconferences.Theliteraturereviewconsistedofacomprehensivereviewoftheexistingresearchoninterpretingstrategiesintranslatingjournalistpressconferences.Thetranscriptsofpressconferenceswerecollectedfromvarioussourcesandanalyzedusinganiterativeprocessofcodingandcategorizationtoidentifythekeystrategiesemployedbyinterpretersintheirtranslations.FindingsThestudyidentifiedseveralkeyinterpretingstrategiesemployedbyinterpretersintranslatingjournalistpressconferencesfromChinesetoEnglishbasedontheExplanatoryTranslationTheory.Thesestrategiesinclude:1.Semanticmapping:Thisstrategyinvolvesidentifyingthekeyconceptsandmeaningsinthesourcetextandmappingthemontotheappropriateequivalentsinthetargetlanguage.Thisstrategyisparticularlyimportantincaseswheretherearenodirectequivalentsinthetargetlanguage.2.Explanatorytranslation:Thisstrategyinvolvesaddingadditionalinformationorexplanationtothetranslationtoensurethatthetargetaudiencefullyunderstandstheintendedmeaningofthesourcetext.Thisstrategyisespeciallyusefulincaseswherethesourcetextcontainsculturalreferencesthatmaybeunfamiliartothetargetaudience.3.Culturaladaptation:Thisstrategyinvolvesadaptingthetranslationtotheculturalcontextofthetargetaudience.Thismayinvolvemodifyingoraddingadditionalinformationtothetranslationtoensurethatitisculturallyappropriateandunderstandable.ConclusionThestudyfoundthattheExplanatoryTranslationTheoryprovidesausefulframeworkforidentifyingandunderstandingtheinterpretingstrategiesemployedbyinterpretersintranslatingjournalistpressconferencesfromChinesetoEnglish.ThestudyalsosuggeststhatthesestrategiesareessentialforproducinganaccurateandeffectivetranslationthatmaintainstheintegrityoftheoriginalmessagewhilealsomakingitaccessibletoanEnglish-speakingaudience.However,thestudyalsohigh
