Theyaregoodguesserswholookforcluesandformtheirownconclusions.Whentheyguess
wrong,theyguessagain.Theytrytolearnfrommistakes.
Successfullanguagelearningisactivelearning.Therefore,successfullearnersdonot
waitforachancetousethelanguage;theylookforsuchachance.Theyfindpeoplewho
speakthelanguageandtheyaskthesepeopletocorrectthemwhentheymakeamistake.
Theywilltryanythingtocommunicate.Theyarenotafraidtorepeatwhattheyhearortosay
strangethings;theyarewillingtomakemistakesandtryagain.Whencommunicationis
difficult,theycanacceptinformationthatisinexactorincomplete.Itismoreimportantfor

Finally,successfullanguagelearnersarelearnerswithapurpose.Theywanttolearnthe
languagebecausetheyareinterestedinthelanguageandthepeoplewhospeakit.Itis
necessaryforthemtolearnthelanguageinordertocommunicatewiththesepeopleandto
learnfromthem.Theyfinditeasytopracticeusingthelanguageregularlybecausetheywant

earthcontributedlesstoeconomicprogressthanthefishfromAlaskawaters.Thefishcaught
inasingleyearrangeinvaluefrom$80millionto$90million.Fur-bearinganimalsare
plentifulintheforestsandstreams,andvaluablefursealsinhabitthewaters.Afterfishing,
