1、Unit2 English around the worldGood morning, everyone. Today I am going to talk about Unit2 “English around the world”, taken from PEP Book1. My introduction consists of five parts: analysis of teaching materials, teaching aims, teaching methods, teaching procedures and homework. Part1 Analysis of te
2、aching materialsThis part includes two aspects1、 teaching contentWith the topic of “English around the world”, this unit will introduce students the development of English. And this lesson will cover warming-up, pre-reading and skimming, so as to activate prior knowledge hat students learnt before.
3、After finishing that, students will have a general idea of “the road to modern English”. 2、 status of teaching material When learning this unit, students are trying to get use to the teaching and study methods of middle school. Therefore, it is very important to teach in appropriate and efficient wa
4、y. This lesson is a lead-in and reading lesson aiming at helping students get some background knowledge and learn more about English. After this lesson, students may know why there is not only one kind of English and the development of English. Part2 Teaching aimsKnowledge aims(1) Students are able
5、to get general information about kinds of English.(2) Students can know some English-speaking countries and how they influence English. (3) Students are able to make a timeline of English development.1、 Ability aims(1) Enable students to know some difference between British English and American Engl
6、ish. (2) To develop students listening skill(3) To improve the Ss reading abilities ,especially their skimming and scanning ability.3、Emotional aimsTo arouse students interests in learning English, know the international standing of English and know more about communication. 4、 Key points and diffic
7、ult pointsKey point is to get students to know the diversity of English, have a general idea of the development of English. But students lack of geography and history knowledge of the text.Part3 teaching methodsAnalysis of Teaching methodsBrainstorming activates the students and come into the topic
8、naturally.A game to draw students attention. Task-based teaching method enables the students to read and learn more efficiently. Multi-media assistance arouses the students interest, curiosity and desire for learning.Analysis of learning methodsStudents are the main body of the class, so I will try
9、my best to urge students to learn by themselves: to get they to know to the diversity of English by thinking about a question, to discover the fun in learning English by listening to radio, to train ability of teamwork by finishing reading task.Part 5 Analysis of Teaching procedures.1、 Lead-in(1) Tr
10、ue or false. In this part, students will judge” there is only one kind of English” is true or false, then think about why. Students will have one minute to think about it.Students are not very interesting in this type of topic. So it is important for teacher to lead students to lead students to find
11、 interestingness in it. Asking a question can lead students to think, thereby exciting students drive to learn. Through this part, students can understand” world englishes”. (2) Lets guess. In this part, students will listen to tape with several kinds of English recordings in it. American English: i
12、t is very hot today. British English: what a hot day. Canada English: yep, I like it. Singlish: there are three students in the class. Choices will be given on ppt. After that, one of students will be asked to guess. If she/he has correct answer, he can get a present and decide who will be the next
13、to guess. Then I will analyses the special pronunciation in each kind of English and point out that although there are different kinds of English, we cant abuse them.2 ·Warming-up:different words but same meaningStudents may wonder what kind of English they are learning. They will get the answe
14、r this part. British English and American English are two most widely used and acknowledged English. I will mention film (British English) and movie(American English) to show the difference between British English and American English. Also, I list these words on ppt: subway, lift, gas, apartment, e
15、raser, in a team and ask students to give the relative word.3、Pre-reading(1) Lets findI will show a world map on the computer screen and ask students to think about where are the English-speaking countries and why do they speak English. After students discussion, some students will be asked to share
16、 their opinion. And then I will mark the speaking countries with blue and mention some countries that had an important influence in English. Meanwhile, I will express how English spread to these countries. For example, in 17th century, as Britain occupy and colonize other parts of the world, English
17、 began to spread.This part is to get students to know enough background so that they can read the text easily. Also, students will know the process of English development and finish question1 in pre-reading part.2、 Reading(1) Students will be asked to read the text with scanning and skimming skills,
18、 that is to read the text quickly and finish task2 in after reading part- make a timeline of the development of English.In this part, student will work in pairs and have a discussion. After that, some students will be asked to share their timelines. I will work with the students to see whether their answers are right or not give the reference an
