1、 THE LAST LEAT（O Henry） 劇本初稿一：時間： November（主要時間） 二：氣候：cold，rainstorm  三：地點： In a little district west of Washington Square 四：角色：Johnsy Sue Old Behrman Doctor Nurse Janitor（門衛(wèi)） lucy(鄰居甲) Linda（鄰居乙）五：其他：旁白 控制人員第一幕：起。 （布景：舞臺前部偏右置折疊床一張，上附暖色床單并被，床頭向觀眾席，尾向內(nèi)，指向臺左后部，床腳置椅一張，椅左一桌，桌上一鏡。臺中床中

2、軸線上置一窗臺，大小適度，窗向臺后開放，上掛便于更換之暖色窗簾，下置一畫板并筆。臺左后置一白版，上附紙繪斑駁，灰暗墻面及一條枯萎，衰敗，腐朽之常青藤，于繪藤處開孔，取葉十二，細(xì)線系之，取紙編號于末端，穿孔而懸，設(shè)一人于白版后，配合Johnsy扮演者口中數(shù)字，依次剪斷第12-5條細(xì)線，另于風(fēng)雨之夜Old Behrman畫葉之前依次掉落余下四葉。） 幕起，只一束光打在旁白處，若燈光不可控則閉燈，旁白持一手電立于臺左前部朗讀，字幕打于大幕上。 旁白：In a little district west of Washington Square, the quaint old Gre

3、enwich Style of the buildings attracted a lot of young artists. They came prowling, hunting for north windows and eighteenth-century gables and Dutch attics and low rents. Sue and Johnsy are two of them, one from Maine, the other from California. They found their tastes in art and became good friend

4、s, then made up their joint studio at the top of a squatty, three-story brick.But in the cold November, Johnsy fell ill seriously, coughed continually. Sue was very anxious so she sent for a doctor. 旁白畢，滅燈下場。 燈亮，Johnsy躺床上，墊高枕頭，Sue立床尾面向觀眾，醫(yī)生穿白衣，持聽診器立床旁，護(hù)士在一旁。護(hù)士：take your temperature，please.Johns

5、y取出溫度計，護(hù)士取過觀看，做記錄并傳達(dá)給醫(yī)生。 醫(yī)生：Its ok, just some kind of normal cold, take a rest and youll get fine soon. Johnsy閉眼睡去。醫(yī)生向Sue招手，兩人走至舞臺左前部。接過護(hù)士遞來的記錄表，邊走邊與Sue交談。 醫(yī)生：Its Pneumonia, so terrible. She has one chance in-let us say, ten. And that chance is for her to want to live. This way people

8、rriages in her funeral procession I subtract 50 percents from the curative power of medicines. 9、淚狀，隨后從窗臺邊取畫板與鉛筆，坐到床腳椅子上，作素描狀。（面向臺左前部，以示其不見Johnsy之醒與數(shù)葉。）Johnsy緩緩睜眼，看著窗外葉子。 Johnsy：Twelve. （控制人員剪落第十二片葉子） Eleven. （控制人員剪落第十一片葉子） Ten. （控制人員剪落第十片葉子） Nine.（控制人員剪落第九，第八片葉子） Eight, Seven. Sue抬頭望Johnsy，之后不解地望向窗外。 Sue：What is it, dear? （控制人員剪落第七片葉子） Johnsy：Six, Theyre falling faster now.

10、 three days ago there were almost a hundred. It made my head ache to count them. But now its easy. （控制人員剪落第六片葉子） Johnsy：There goes another one. There are only five left now. Sue：Five what, dear? Tell your Sudie. Johnsy：Leaves. On the ivy vine. When the last one falls I must go, too. I

11、ve known that for three days. Didnt the doctor tell you? Sue：Oh, I never heard of such nonsense. The doctor told me Just now that your chances were ten to one! Why thats almost as good a chance as we have in New York when we ride on the streetcars or work past a new building. Try to take some b

12、roth now, and let Sudie go back to her drawing, so she can sell the editor man with it, and buy port wine for her sick child, and pork chops for her greedy self. Johnsy：You neednt get any more wine. （控制人員剪落第五片葉子） Johnsy：There goes another. No, I dont want any broth. That leaves just four.

13、I want to see the last one fall before it gets dark. Then Ill go, too. Sue：Johnsy, dear, will you promise me to keep your eyes closed, and not look out the window until I am done working? I must hand those drawings in by tomorrow. I need the light, or I would draw the shade down. Johnsy：Co

14、uldnt you draw in the other room? Sue：Id rather be here by you. Besides, I dont want you to keep looking at those silly ivy leaves. Johnsy：Tell me as soon as you have finished. （閉上雙眼）Because I want to see the last one fall. Im tired of waiting. Im tired of waiting. Im tired of thinking. I

15、want to turn loose my hold on everything, and go sailing down down, just like one of those poor, tired leaves. Sue：Try to sleep, I must call Behrman up to be my model for the old hermit miner. Im so sorry to hear that .Lucy :So am I .and I also heard that when the last leaf falled she would died.Linda ：My godShe is a painting genius, what a pity.Lucy和Linda退。幕閉。 第二幕：承。 （布景：窗簾，床單換為冷色調(diào)的，床上放一軍用綠被，臟破為佳，取走桌子，取走床腳椅子，換為

17、小凳子，窗與床間支起畫架，上設(shè)空白畫板一，調(diào)色板一，油筆一。Johnsy帶被下，Old behrman斜靠床坐在地上，面向臺左前部，手拿酒瓶，撕去標(biāo)簽。） 旁白：Old Behrman was a painter who lived on the ground floor beneath them. He was past sixty but still a failure in art. Forty years he had wielded the brush without getting near enough to touch the hem of his Mistresss

18、 robe. He had been always about to paint a masterpiece, but had never yet begun it. He earned a little by serving as a model to those young artists who could not pay the price of a professional. He drank gin to excess, and still talked of his coming masterpiece. For the rest he was a fierce little o

19、ld man, who scoffed terribly at softness in any one, and who regarded himself as especial mastiff-in-waiting to protect the two young artists in the studio above. 幕啟，弱燈。Sue上臺，作欲敲門狀，發(fā)現(xiàn)門未關(guān)好，即走進(jìn)來。 Sue：Mr Behrman, would you please pose as model for me? Its an old hermit-miner this time. B

20、ehrman: Oh, its you. Thats nothing difficult, Im just the suitable model. By the way, you look sad, little girl, whats wrong? Sue：Its about Johnsy.（嘆氣）Shes beaten down by the Pneumonia, and she believed she will die until the last leaf on the vine fell down. Behrman:：Vass! Is there people

21、in the world with their follishness to die because leaves they drop off from a confounded vine? I have not heard of such a thing. No I will not pose as a model for your hermit-dunderhead. Why do you allow that silly business to come in their brain of her? Ach, that poor little Miss Johnsy.（邊說邊走到窗邊，看

22、著窗外藤葉，控制人員陸續(xù)剪落第四，第三，第二片葉子） Sue：She is very ill and weak, and the fever has left her mind morbid and full of strange fancies. Very well. Mr Behrman, if you do not care to pose for me, you neednt. But I think you are a horrid old-old flibbertigibbet. Behrman：You are just like a woman!（大喊）Who

23、 said I will not pose? Go on. For half an hour I have been trying to say that I am ready to pose. Gott! This is not any place in which one so good as Miss Johnsy shall lie sick. Some day I will paint a masterpiece, and we shall all go away. Gott! Yes. Sue與Behrman對坐，Behrman著藍(lán)色礦工衣坐凳子上，Sue坐在床上開始畫像

24、，控制人員剪落最后一片葉子。Linda：Look！The last leaf has fallen.Lucy : eh how about Johnsy! Will she die ?Linda : Who knows!鄰居甲乙退場。 幕閉。 第三幕：轉(zhuǎn)。（布景：仍同第一幕一樣，窗戶及窗簾緊閉，Johnsy帶被上，仍作沉睡狀，Sue坐床腳椅上，手架在床上打瞌睡。） 幕啟。窗內(nèi)包括舞臺前部弱光，墻部打強光，漸入風(fēng)雨之音效。Behrman著雨衣執(zhí)調(diào)色板與畫筆，提燈上，在墻上常青藤上畫一片藤葉，莖深綠，葉枯黃。風(fēng)雨聲加大，Behrman畫畢，連聲咳嗽，在下臺路上倒臺上，風(fēng)雨聲漸出

25、。光漸變強以示天明，門衛(wèi)自右前部執(zhí)手電上，作巡邏狀，突見倒地之人，跑過去扶起。 門衛(wèi)：Oh, its Old Behrman, whatre you doing here?（用肩膀扛在Behrman肋下，從左前部下臺。） Johnsy緩緩醒來，先望Sue，后望窗簾。護(hù)士：You wake up!How are you feeling now? Johnsy：Pull it up! I want to see! Sue作驚醒狀，不情愿的拉開窗簾。Johnsy發(fā)現(xiàn)最后一片藤葉，很吃驚。 Johnsy：It is the last one, I th

26、ought it would surely fall during the night. I heard the wind. It will fall today, and I shall die at the same time. Sue走到床頭，低首靠近枕頭。 Sue：Dear, dear! Think of me, if you wont think of yourself. What would I do? （情緒激動） 幕閉。第四幕：合。（布景：與上一幕大體相同，拉上窗簾，桌上加一鍋一勺兩碗,以及一面小鏡子。床上被子里放一織物并針） 旁白：Jo

27、hnsy did not answer. The lonesomest thing in all the world is a soul when it is making ready to go on its mysterious, far journey. The fancy seemed to possess her more strongly as one by one that bound her to friendship and to earth were loosed. 幕啟。強光打墻上，余處不給光，風(fēng)雨聲漸入。 旁白：The day wore away,

28、and even through the twilight they could see the lone ivy leaf clinging to its stem against the wall. And then, with the coming of the night the north wind was again loosed, while the rain still beat against the windows, and pattered down from the low Dutch eaves. 風(fēng)雨聲漸出，燈漸強打窗內(nèi)，窗外強光不撤，Sue立桌前，持勺盛

29、湯， Johnsy緩緩醒來. Johnsy：Dear Sue. Would you please pull the shade up?Sue放下碗，輕輕拉開窗簾，Johnsy呆住了，癡癡地望著那一片葉子，Sue仍到桌前盛湯。 Johnsy：Ive been a bad girl, Sudie. Something has made that last leaf stay there to show me how wicked I was. It is a sin to want to die. You may bring me a little broth now, and

30、 some milk with a little port in it, and-no; bring me an hand-mirror first, and then pack some pillows about me, and I will sit up and watch you cook. Sue遞給她鏡子，幫她加高枕頭，并遞給她一碗湯（附勺），Johnsy緩緩噓著喝完，把碗遞給Sue。 Johnsy：Sudie, some day I hope to paint the Bay of Naples. Sue回轉(zhuǎn)身子望向Johnsy，終于笑了。 

31、;醫(yī)生上臺，作敲門狀，Sue開門。 Sue：Oh, Doctor, thank you for coming so fast. 護(hù)士：Hows the little girl?（走至床頭，摸其額頭，作檢視狀。）Oh, it is really a miracle!醫(yī)生：(轉(zhuǎn)身向Sue)Even chances. With good nursing youll win. And now I must see another case I have downstairs. Behrman, his name is-some kind of an artist, I believ

Theres no hope for him; but he goes to the hospital today to be made more comfortable. Sue：Ill go with you. Oh, Poor Behrman. How could such a strong man get in danger? Sue與醫(yī)生下臺。（power
