And finally I would like to thankthe Washington University faculty members who served as our instructors,mentors, and friends.As I think back on the seven-and-a-half years

5、pataHall - the room at the end of the hallway that was too hot in summer, toocold in winter, and always too far away from the womens restroom. Thewindow was my offices best feature. Were it not for the physics buildingacross the way, it would have afforded mea clear view of the arch. Butinstead I go

6、t a view of the roof of the physics building. I also had a view ofone corner of the roof of Urbauer Hall, which seemed to be a favorite perchfor various species of birds who alternately won perching rights for severalweeks at a time. And I had a nice view of the physics courtyard, noteworthyas a goo

7、d place for watching people run their dogs. Its amazing howfascinating these views became the longer I worked on my dissertation.But my favorite view was of a nearby oak tree.From my fourth-floor vantage point I had a rather intimate view of the treeand the various birds and squirrels that inhabit i

8、t. Occasionally a bird wouldland on my window sill, which usually had the effect of startling both of us.I take with methe memoryof two young professors whopassed awaywhile I was a graduate student. Anne Johnstone, the only female professorfrom whom I took a course in the engineering school, and Bob

9、Durr, apolitical science professor and a member of my dissertation committee,both lost brave battles with cancer. 10、se wasjust too hard for meand thatI would never be able to pass it. So I went to talk to the professor, ready todrop the class. And he told me not to give up, he told me I could succeed inhis class. For reasons that seemed completely ludicrous at the time, hesaid he had faith in me. And after that m

11、y grades in the class slowlyimproved, and I ended the semester with an A on the final exam. Iremember how motivational it was to know that someone believed in me.I take with mememories of the midwestern friendliness that sosurprised me when I arrived in St. Louis 8 years ago. Since moving toNewJerse

12、y, I amsad to say, nobody has asked mewhere I went to highschool.I take with me the memory of the short-lived computer sciencegraduate student social committee lunches. The idea was that groups ofCS grad students were supposed to take turns cooking a monthly lunch.But after one grad student prepared

13、 a pot of chicken that poisoned almostthe entire CSgrad student population and one unlucky faculty member inone fell swoop, there wasnt much enthusiasm for having more lunches.I take with me the memory of a more successful graduate studenteffort, the establishment of the Association of Graduate Engi

14、neeringStudents, known as AGES. Started by a handful of engineering graduatestudents because we needed a way to elect representatives to a文章來源網(wǎng),僅供分享學習參考 4 campus-wide graduate student government, AGES soon grew into anorganization that now sponsors a wide variety of activities and has beeninstrument

15、al in addressing a number of engineering graduate studentconcerns.I take with me the memory of an Engineering and Policy departmentthat once had flourishing programs for full-time undergraduate, masters,and doctoral students.I take with mememories of the 1992 U.S. Presidential debate. Eagerto get in

16、volved in all the excitement I volunteered to help wherever needed.I remember spending several days in the makeshift debate HQgivingout-of-town reporters directions to the athletic complex. I rememberbeingthrilled to get assigned the job of collecting film from the photographers inthe debate hall du

17、ring the debate. And I remember the disappointment ofdrawing the shortest straw among the student volunteers and being theone who had to take the film out of the debate hall and down to the darkroom five minutes into the debate - with no chance to re-enter the debatehall after I left.篇二:國外名校畢業(yè)生演講稿go
