A plan has been drawn up to deal with emergencies.5. be noted for: be famous for 因而出名 He was noted for his vigor. 他以精力充沛而出名。He was noted for his politeness. 大家都知道他很有禮貌。6. gain/get access to: get the right or opportunity to have or use something that will bring you benefits 獲得;得到 Students m
11、ust get access to good books. 學生必須有機會讀到好書。7. Funds were raised, mainly by parents, which enabled the school to gain access to a computer - a Program Data processor (PDP) - through a teletype machine.資金已經(jīng)籌集好了,主要是靠父母籌集的。學校用這筆錢購買了一臺電腦一種通過電傳打字機進入電腦的程序數(shù)據(jù)處理器。該句中,which引導的是非限定性定語從句,先行詞為funds。gain access to:

13、d me tried to overtake on the inside. 我后面的駕駛員想從內(nèi)車道超過我。9.because of: owing to 因為 The police are advising motorists to reduce speed because of the fog. 由于有霧,警察告誡駕車者減慢速度。Theyve surcharged us 10% on the price of the holiday because of a rise in air fares. 因飛機票漲價, 他們在度假費用中向我們增收了10%附加費。Many be
14、autiful fish are fast disappearing because of the severe pollution. 因為污染嚴重,許多美麗的魚類正在面臨絕種。10. get into trouble: to do sth. that causes trouble for yourself or for someone else 使(某人)陷入麻煩/遇到困難等 Even an experienced climber can get into trouble. 那怕是個有經(jīng)驗的登山者也能陷入困境。Nobody likes to get into trouble.

Sentence Structure Analysis:.1). the man he says inspired his life in politics.短語意思為:“那個對他的政治生涯起了鼓舞作用的人”inspired his life in politics在短語中充當定語,修飾the man.2). the President showing me from which direction the British ha
18、d come when they set fire to the White House in 1814.該句為獨立主格結(jié)構(gòu),在整個句子中充當伴隨狀語。3). A couple of times, when I bent over my notes, Clinton looked over to them, apparently seeking acknowledgement that he was sticking to his script.句子意思為:“有好幾次,當我俯身記錄時,克林頓就望望他們,很顯然是在確認他的講話是否與稿子的內(nèi)容一致?!?apparently seeking ack
19、nowledgement that he was sticking to his script.為現(xiàn)在分詞,在句中充當目的狀語。4). A lot of people hated President Roosevelt and his wife, many for the very good reason that he was a great man, changing the assumptions and rules of being American.許多人討厭羅斯??偨y(tǒng)及他的夫人,其絕妙的理由是他是個偉人,改變了美國人的一些臆斷與規(guī)則。that he was a great man是
20、定語從句,修飾先行詞reason5).Mainly, though, millions of Americans hate Clinton not because of great events of his Presidency, but because of the 1960s.句中not but是并列結(jié)構(gòu),意思是:“不是而是”.V.
