Since some families are not helping their children become more involved in school, its up to teachers, counselors, and youth professionals to provide this training. Researchers say they were surprised to find that a

12、 majority of 456 dropouts interviewed were not what most people would consider underachieving troublemakers. One third of the students said they were failing in school, but more than six out of ten were keeping C averages or better when they quit. Almost half said they were bored or that the classwo

13、rk seemed unrelated. Another dropout said, “There wasnt any learning going on; they make you take classes youre never going to use in life.” Three out of four said if they could turn the clock back they would choose to stay in school, and eight out of ten said they now recognize that a high school d

14、iploma is important to succeeding in life - a lesson learned too late. Teachers need to convince students why they should stay in school. One is to have students name jobs that they can “always” do without a diploma. This will quickly highlight that jobs with the best pay and benefits require a dipl

Completed in 1844, it is one of the authors most popular works, along with The Three Musketeers. Like many of his novels, it is expanded from plot outlines suggested by his co-author Auguste Maquet

17、. The story takes place in France, Italy, islands in the Mediterranean, and in the Levant during the historical events of 18151838. It begins from just before the Hundred Days period, when Napoleon returned to power after his exile(流放), and goes through to the time of Louis-Philippe of France. The h

It is an adventure story primarily concerned with themes of hope, justice, revenge(復(fù)仇), mercy and forgiveness,and is told in the style of an adventure story. It focuses on a man who is wrongfully imprisoned, escapes from prison, gains a fort

19、une and sets about getting revenge on those responsible for his imprisonment. However, his plans have terrible consequences for the innocent as well as the guilty. In addition, it is a story that involves romance, loyalty, betrayal(背叛) and selfishness, shown throughout the story as characters slowly

20、 shows their true inner nature. Dumas got the idea for The Count of Monte Cristo from a true story, which he found in a memoir(回憶錄) written by a man named Jacques Peuchet. Peuchet related the story of a shoemaker named Pierre Picaud, who was living in Paris in 1807. Picaud was engaged to a rich woma

21、n, but four envious friends falsely accused him of being a spy for England. He was imprisoned for seven years. During his imprisonment a fellow prisoner told him a treasure hidden in Milan. When Picaud was released in 1814, he took possession of the treasure, returned under another name to Paris and

22、 spent ten years plotting his successful revenge. The book is considered a literary classic today. According to Luc Sante, The Count of Monte Cristo has become a fixture of Western civilizations literature, as inescapable and immediately identifiable as Mickey Mouse, Noahs flood, and the story of Li
