To me, literature and the written word is mankinds greatest achievement, which is why I am determined to dedicate my life to its study. I am not conten

2、t with simply reading a text, as I have a hunger to learn everything I can about what I read - how it was written; why it was written; what it means; its place in literature as a whole. I read a catholic range of literature. I particularly enjoy Romantic poetry, as I find it to be an intriguing exam

3、ple of how literature can be used to make a stand against societys established codes, as poets rebelled against previous literary traditions and, contrary to the doctrines of neo-classical literature, focused on emotions and on the individual. Another example of such a rebellion, and another area of

4、 fascination to me, is the dystopian novel of the twentieth century. My favourite examples include Orwells 1984 and Animal Farm, Goldings Lord of the Flies , Bradburys Fahrenheit 451 and Huxleys Brave New World. Many of these great works were inspired by, and reacted against, the rise of political e

5、xtremists during the first half of the century. These works are also often highly satirical, a style which I admire and which has lead me to read works such as Popes The Rape of the Lock, Hellers Catch-22 and Ben Eltons cynically satirical plays. I also appreciate the novels of Jane Austen, especial

6、ly the witty Gothic satire Northanger Abbey. I see literature as both a cause and an effect of history, and so I study history in order to fully appreciate the context of a piece of writing. I find it fascinating how ones knowledge of a historical period can alter ones interpretation of a text. Also

7、, I believe that the study of art can contribute to ones understanding of literary background, for example in the way that Blakes paintings can give an insight into his mind, and thus his poetry. I find that my study of maths is useful as it contributes to my logical and analytical skills, which are

8、 vital for the critical appraisal of literature. At the end of year 12 I attended a ten-day residential course at Eton College to study English literature. The course was designed to be of the same intensity, and of a similar level, to university studies. These were ten of the best days of my life,

9、and made me realise that an English course at university would be perfect for me, and that I would be perfect for it. This course also allowed me to refine my interests in the subject, and to look in detail at areas hitherto untouched-upon in my state school education. I have completed a work experi

10、ence placement at a local architects office, which I feel taught me many life-skills. Seeing the enthusiasm of the people I worked with showed me that it is important to pursue a career in a subject you love. Therefore, although I do not have a definite idea of where I wish to work in the future, I

11、would like to find employment in an area directly related to English, such as in publishing or journalism. I take part in extra-curricular activities that I feel aid me in my English studies. Being a member of a debating society has increased my discussion abilities, and has taught me how to argue m

12、y point while retaining an open mind and being aware of the opinions and interpretations of others. I am a volunteer for a group that helps less-able children to read, as I feel that the ability to appreciate the written word is the most fundamental life-skill that a child can have. I love making mu

13、sic on the guitar and the piano, and I am an avid art-fan. I am part of NAGTY, Young Enterprise and the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. 16、年。 出國留學(xué)泰國一年多少費(fèi)用 一、學(xué)習(xí)費(fèi)用 泰國的教育屬于國家支持的福利產(chǎn)業(yè),所以大部分的情況下,大家入讀的學(xué)校是公立的,專業(yè)不是頂尖的,基本上一年的學(xué)費(fèi)都可以控制在5萬元以下,這樣對(duì)普通家庭來說也能承受得起。 不過如果選擇的是排名靠前的,例如朱拉隆功和易三倉,再加上專業(yè)是商科或者管理類,那么大家要承擔(dān)的學(xué)費(fèi)就會(huì)貴上不少,一年需要20萬左右,不過可以申請(qǐng)的獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金也會(huì)多一些。 二、住宿費(fèi)用 生活開銷中的部分,少部分提供宿舍的學(xué)校,大家如果能夠申請(qǐng)到要盡量申請(qǐng),住宿成本會(huì)低很多,一個(gè)月1000元左右;大部分學(xué)校是不提供住宿的,可以考慮學(xué)校周邊的公寓。 有比較便宜的,也有貴一些的,建議大家還是要是安全性和舒適度為主,一般來說月租金會(huì)在幾百到兩三千不等,建議大家認(rèn)真的進(jìn)行篩選,確認(rèn)下自己的需求而且選擇適合自己的。 三、其他費(fèi)用 吃飯也是比較大的一筆開銷,因?yàn)槊款D飯都是需要自己花錢的,雖然有食堂、餐館和自己做飯可以選,但是平均下來一個(gè)月也需要2000元左右,不過好在可以選
