11、ts, low-cut dresses, jeans or quite exaggerated clothes, such as tremendous hats, long gowns, etc. most of which are of fantastic or peculiar design and give us a great visual impact. As for me, the dresses in the first fashion show are wonderful. Wearing such daring and rebellious dresses can give

12、a full display of their personality and preference, its probably they want to break away from tradition and play a new and independent role in society. Whats more, they can feel more confident in the new dresses. Therefore, I prefer the modern dresses to the traditional or professional clothes which

13、 are too formal to me in the second show. I think we have to advance with the times otherwise we would be quite out of fashion and seem odd to the modern youth.Watching and DiscussingReference 2 Traditional clothes: Even though the clothes in the first show are regarded as fashionable I dont think t

14、hey are practical. Some of them are too revealing. They are just fit for the models to wear on the T-platform. Its not quite decent for the Chinese girls to wear dresses like that and walk around the streets. As far as Im concerned, compared with the first fashion show, the second one caters to my t

15、aste. The girls wearing traditional Chinese clothes, cheong-sam (旗袍), look so graceful and decent. With some reform, the clothes are not as inflexible as before. With them, the beauty of the female are fully revealed. As for the professional clothes, they are of various designs as well as being form

16、al and can be worn in different occasions. Therefore, I prefer the traditional and professional clothes. Book 2 Unit 6Watching and DiscussingTask 2. 18、s we do not go to extremes. There are various reasons for people to follow fashion. To begin with, a new trend often involves new ideas, which may promote the development of human civilization. For example, when jeans and T-shirt first appeared, they might have looked strange to most observers, but

19、later on people found them to be convenient and practical. Second, as often as not, fashion followers just need a way to show their determination to avoid tradition. Sometimes they do something different because they are not satisfied with their status or position. They want to show their dissatisfa

20、ction or indignation by wearing different or even unusual dresses. Watching and Discussing The third argument Id like to put forward is that the choice of a certain style can usually reflect ones taste. We can often hear such comments as “Her dress shows a good taste”. Sometimes the fashionable clot

21、hes may give them more advantages over others in front of some opportunities. Here is my fourth reason. Some people wear stylish, expensive clothes to show they have lots of money or are in a high position. In this way, they may feel more confident about themselves. You may not like this, but it is

22、cruelly true that some people judge you not by your personality or intelligence, but rather by your appearance. Just as a saying goes, “Clothes make the man.” Indeed there are many reasons for us to follow fashion, though I dont mean that we have to do it all the time. Watching and DiscussingReferen

23、ce 2 Against “following the fashion trend” Im against following new fashions blindly. Though some people may give a variety of reasons for adopting new trends, Im convinced that there is more harm than good in it. First, many fashionable things are not really practical. Do you think a lady wearing h

24、igh-heeled shoes can walk fast or climb a mountain? Second, most fashion trends dont last long. Whats high fashion this year may go out of style next year. This naturally leads to my third point. Fashion causes a lot of waste. If expensive clothes are thrown away next year, its undoubtedly a waste o

25、f money. Watching and Discussing In my opinion, students should spend their time and money on study. By acquiring more knowledge, they will eventually prove to be more useful to society, and, in turn, theyll be amply rewarded sooner or later. If students indulge themselves in fashion, what theyll su

26、ffer is not only a loss of money but also career opportunities. In western countries, a punk (年輕無知的人) with his hair dyed green may find himself rejected at one job interview after another. I think the above arguments are sufficient for us to come to this conclusion: Dont follow fashion blindly. The

27、most important thing is that what you wear should fit your personality and your status, and, you should feel comfortable.Watching and DiscussingActing It OutSituation 1 Mother and daughter A girl and her mother are walking on the road when they see a woman passing by and they talk about the clothes

28、she is wearing. The girl feels that the womans dress looks funny. But her mother has a very different idea she thinks the womans dress looks fine to her. The girl disagrees because she thinks the womans dress is out of fashion and that is last years style. Her mother thinks its quite all right as lo

29、ng as it looks good on her. Therefore, the girl says that her mother is as out-dated as that woman. Still, the mother doesnt see any point in keeping herself in style.
