But a certain young wedding planner, who shall remain nameless, was afraid that some in attendance might fall asleep. So instead, Im going to let Burt and Carole tell you in their own words why theyve invited yo
9、u here today.- Im not really known for having a way with words. Uh . you know when youre a kid, adults will tell you a lot of things. But one thing they neglect to mention is how sad life can be. I lost somebody I loved very much. But Kurt, he lost his mom, and that killed me. Well, we got by, but l

22、ivorce in North America. When it comes to money, we often butt heads with our spouse. In fact, what we often overlook is that many times were not fighting with our spouse over principle, but details of a certain financial aspect. The word “compromise” has become a dirty word in marriage counseling,
23、because it has the stigma that youre letting go of your principles and convictions just to please your spouse, and I agree that you shouldnt compromise your principles and convictions. However, there are ways to compromise without breaking ones own long-held principles.The idea of “l(fā)osing the battle
24、 to win the war” is to give up a little bit and essentially lose the small battle in order to make the situation right and ultimately “win the war” and have a solid relationship with your significant other.1. Communication is keyStop for a second and talk about what your disagreement is about. If th
25、e disagreement is about whether you should buy a car with cash or buy a car with 100% financing, then you have a disagreement over principle.On the other hand, if your disagreement is about how much you should give to a charity or a family member, youre actually agreeing that you should give, but yo
26、ure disagreeing over the detail of that gift.2. How to lose the battleLosing the battle involves compromising a little bit to meet in the middle about the details. If youre fighting over how much to give to a charity, meet somewhere in the middle. Agree to give more money in months when you have man
27、aged to save more, and less in months when your expenses are higher than usual.If youre fighting over the car financing issue discussed in the previous section, this is obviously a bigger issue since its over principles, but still not impossible to get over. You need to explain to each other why you
28、 have the stance that you do, and see if there is room for compromise. Perhaps you can agree to pay with cash for the car this time, and consider using financing in future scenarios where you both agree it makes sense.3. Winning the warIf you find a way for you to both partially win, then youve won
29、the war, because you both put your pride aside and found a way to make each other happy. If you communicated about it and found a reasonable compromise, then youve each “l(fā)ost” very small battles, but youve won the larger war. Its not like you were ever going to inherit or take over. Its in your prenuptial agreement, what was Daddys before the marriage stays Daddys after divorce
