ItisforeseenthattheReliefRoadwillbeadual,two–lanecarriagewayandthattherewillbejunctionsatFernwoodRoadandatthesouthendofHighLane.Itisfeltthatsucharoadisrequiredtoallowforthegrowthoftrafficenvisagedoverthenexttwentyyearsandthatthisroutewillbeessentialforthrough–trafficjoiningtheHightownBypass.ThustheReliefRoadandtheHightownBypasstogetherwillprovidesubstantialrelieftothetrafficproblemsexperiencedinrecentyearsinthecenterofFernwoodfollowingtheconstructionofthenewContainerPortatHighportin1980.

Asaresult,fewerbirdsareheadingbackeachspringnorthoftheborder.Smithsonianscientistsnoticethatspeciesnumbersaredecliningatratesbetweenoneandfourpercentayear.Theprospectisthattherewillbemajorreductionsinthrongsof–dwellingmigrants.AccordingtoProfessorJohnTerborghofPrincetonUniversity,“Weare,ineffect,abouttoyobserversinamassiveexperimentinwhichtherewillbedramaticaltionsintherelativepopulationsizesofnumerouscommonspecies.”
