ManycontemporaryideasaboutkitchendesigncanbetracedbacktoanotherAmerican,ChristineFrederick,whosetaboutenhancingtheefficiencyofthehousewife.Her1919work,HouseholdEngineering:ScientificManagementintheHome,wasbasedondetailedobservationofahousewife’sdailyroutine.Sheborrowedtheprincipleofefficiencyonthefactoryfloorandappliedittodomestictasksonthekitchenfloor.
