TheRTL8365MB-CGisanLQFP128,high-performance4+1-port10/100/1000MEthernetswitchfeaturinglow-powerintegratedQuad-portGiga-PHYsthatsupport1000Base-T,100Base-TX,and10Base-T.

Forspecificapplications,theRTL8365MBsupportsanextrainterfacethatcouldbeconfiguredasaGMII/RGMII/MIIinterface.TheRTL8365MBintegratesallthefunctionsofahigh-speedswitchsystem;includingSRAMforpacketbuffering,non-blockingswitchfabric,andinternalregistermanagementintoasingleCMOSdevice.Onlya25MHzcrystalisrequired;anoptionalEEPROMisofferedforinternalregisterconfiguration.

TheembeddedpacketstorageSRAMintheRTL8365MBfeaturessuperiormemorymanagementtechnologytoefficientlyutilizememoryspace.TheRTL8365MBintegratesa2K-entrylook-uptablewitha4-wayXORHashingalgorithmforaddresssearchingandlearning.Thetableprovidesread/writeaccessfromtheEEPROMSerialManagementInterface(SMI),MediaIndependentInterfaceManagement(MIIM),orSPIInterface.Eachoftheentriescanbeconfiguredasastaticentry.Theentryagingtimeisbetween200and400seconds.EightFilteringDatabasesareusedtoprovideIndependentVLANLearningandSharedVLANLearning(IVL/SVL)functions.

TheExtensionGMAC1oftheRTL8365MBimplementsaGMII/RGMII/MIIinterface.TheinterfacecouldbeconnectedtoanexternalPHY,MAC,CPU,orRISCforspecificapplications.Inrouterapplications,theRTL8365MBsupportsPortVID(PVID)foreachporttoinsertaPVIDintheVLANtagonegress.Whenusingthisfunction,VIDinformationcarriedintheVLANtagwillbechangedtoPVID.

Note:TheRTL8365MBExtraInterface(ExtensionGMAC1)supports:Dual-PortGigabitMediaIndependentInterface(GMII)

TheRTL8365MBsupportsstandard802.3xflowcontrolframesforfullduplex,andoptionalbackpressureforhalfduplex.Itdetermineswhentoinvoketheflowcontrolmechanismbycheckingtheavailabilityofsystemresources,includingthepacketbuffersandtransmittingqueues.TheRTL8365MBsupportsbroadcast/multicastoutputdropping,andwillforwardbroadcast/multicastpacketstonon-blockedportsonly.ForIPmulticastapplications,theRTL8365MBsupportsIPv4IGMPv1/v2andIPv6MLDv1snooping.

Inordertosupportflexibletrafficclassification,theRTL8365MBsupports64-entryACLrulecheckandmultipleactionsoptions.EachportcanoptionallyenableordisabletheACLrulecheckfunction.TheACLrulekeycanbebasedonpacketphysicalport,Layer2,Layer3,andLayer4information.WhenanACLrulematches,theactiontakenisconfigurabletoDrop/Permit/Redirect/Mirror,changepriorityvaluein802.1q/Qtag,andratepolicing.Theratepolicingmechanismsupportsfrom8Kbpsto1Gbps(in8Kbpssteps).

InBridgeoperationtheRTL8365MBsupports16setsofportconfigurations:disable,block,learning,andforwardingforSpanningTreeProtocolandMultipleSpanningTreeProtocol.Tomeetsecurityandmanagementapplicationrequirements,theRTL8365MBsupportsIEEE802.1xPort-based/MAC-basedAccessControl.ForthoseportsthatdonotpassIEEE802.1xauthentication,theRTL8365MBprovidesaPort-based/MAC-basedGuestVLANfunctionforthemtoaccesslimitednetworkresources.A1-setPort

Mirroringfunctionisconfiguredtomirrortraffic(RX,TX,orboth)appearingononeoftheswitch’sports.SupportisprovidedoneachportformultipleRFCMIBCounters,foreasydebuganddiagnostics.

Toimprovereal-timeormultimedianetworkingapplications,theRTL8365MBsupportseightpriorityassignmentsforeachreceivedpacket.Thesearebasedon(1)Port-basedpriority;(2)802.1p/QVLANtagpriority;(3)DSCPfieldinIPv4/IPv6header;and(4)ACL-assignedpriority.Eachoutputportsupportsaweightedratioofeightpriorityqueuestofitbandwidthrequirementsindifferentapplications.Theinputbandwidthcontrolfunctionhelpslimitper-porttrafficutilization.Thereisoneleakybucketforaveragepacketratecontrolforeachqueueofallports.QueueschedulingalgorithmcanuseStrictPriority(SP)orWeightedFairQueue(WFQ)ormixed.

TheRTL8365MBprovidesa4K-entryVLANtablefor802.1Qport-based,tag-based,andprotocol-basedVLANoperationtoseparatelogicalconnectivityfromphysicalconnectivity.TheRTL8365MBsupportsfourProtocol-basedVLANconfigurationsthatcanoptionallyselectEtherType,LLC,andRFC1042asthesearchkey.EachportmaybesettoanytopologyviaEEPROMuponreset,orEEPROMSMISlaveafterreset.

Inrouterapplications,theroutermaywanttoknowtheinputportoftheincomingpacket.TheRTL8365MBsupportsanoptiontoinsertaVLANtagwithVID=PortVID(PVID)oneachegressport.TheRTL8365MBalsoprovidesanoptiontoadmitVLANtaggedpacketSwithaspecificPVIDonly.Ifthisfunctionisenabled,theRTL8365MBwilldropallnon-taggedpacketsandpacketswithanincorrectPVID.
