Inlastweek’slesson,welearnedthewordallons,meaning“l(fā)et’sgo.”Itcomesfromtheverballer,“togo.”Remembertotakethenousformoftheverbinthepresenttense(ie.nousallons)anddropthenous.

Noticethattheonlydifferenceinthefollowin ophrasesisthepresenceorabsenceofnous,butthisgivesthephraseatotallydifferentmeaning.

Wearegoingtolookattheverballerinmoredetail.Aswementionedlastweek,itdoesnotfollowthesamepatternsastheverbswehavebeenlearningsofar.Theverbswehavelookedatareall“regular”verbs,meaningtheyallfollowexactlythesamepattern.Theverblaver(“towash”)isanexampleofaregular-erverb.

Theverballerbelongstoagroupofwhatareknownas“irregular”verbs.Thismeansithasadifferentpatterntowhatyouwouldexpect.Althoughirregularverbsdonotfollowthepatternofregularverbs,theydotendtofollowsomekindofpattern.Let’slookattheconjugationofallerinthepresenttense.
