NGMNAlliance(NGMN)believesthat6Gisthegracefulevolutionofcommunicationnetworksintothe2030s,deliveringcompellingnewservicesandcapabilitiesforcustomerswhilstmaintainingessentialofferingssuchasvoice.6Gwillbuildon,andextendbeyond,ourexisting5Gecosystemtofosternewinnovationswhichdelivervaluetocustomersandsimplifynetworkoperation.

Concurrenttothisjourneytowardsthe6Geraisthedevelopmentofnetworkdisaggregationandanopen,interoperablecloudnativearchitecture.

INNOVATIONSANDNEWSERVICES

6GprovidesanopportunitytosupportinnovativenewIMT-2030featuressuchasjointsensingandcommunications,AI,extendedAR/VR,enhancedpositioningetc.

6Gshouldfacilitateseamlessintegrationandinteroperabilitywithfixedandsatellitenetworks.

6GshouldinherentlysupportnetworkrelatedAPIs,fosteringnewserviceofferings

whichleveragenetworkcapabilities.

OPERATIONALPRIORITIES

Networksimplificationleadingtoloweroperationalcostwhilstretainingscalabilityandflexibledeploymentmodels.

6Gmustnotinherentlytriggerahardwarerefreshof5GRANinfrastructure.Thedecisiontorefresh5GRANhardwareforoperationalreasonssuchasend-of-life,energyconsumptionornewcapabilitiesmustbeanoperatordrivenchoice,independentofsupporting6G.

6Gintroductionmustallowcertainscenariostoberealisedthroughsoftware-basedfeatureupgradesofexistingnetworkelementstomeet6Grequirements.

6Gmustnotresultindegradedperformanceforcustomersconnectedto5Gnetworks.

Newfeaturesshouldbeabletobedeployedasandwhenrequired,withoutcompromisingexistingcoreconnectivityservicessuchasvoice.

6Gmustaddressdemonstrablecustomerneedsacrossmobile,fixedandnon-

terrestrialnetworks.

6Gmustensureinteroperabilityandbackwardcompatibilitywith5G.

6Gmustincorporaterobustsecuritymeasuresbydesigntoprotectagainstemergingthreatsandvulnerabilities.
