Universityin1929,continuingherstudiesinzoologyandgenetics.

CarsoncompletedherMaster'sinzoologyinJuneof1932,andwenttoworkatalocalradiostation.Hereshewould

writeeducationalbroadcastsforaweeklyradioshowcalledRomanceUndertheWaters.ThisledhertoherjobattheU.S.

BureauofFisheries,andshebecamejustthesecondwomantobeemployedbythebureau.

In1951,CarsonhadherbookTheSeaAroundUspublished,whichexplainsthecomplexityoftheoceanto

non-scientists.Carsonwrotethebookwithpoetryandscience,andsheintendedtosparkinherreadersasenseofthe

fragilityoftheworld'secosystem.TheSewAroundUsmadeCarsonthevoiceofpublicscienceinAmerica,an

internationallyrecognizedauthorityontheoceans,andestablishedherreputationasanaturewriterofthefirstrank.

In1962,Carsonbecamewell-knownwhenhermostfamousbookSilentSpringwaspublished.Thisbookdescribedthe

negativeeffectsofpesticidesontheenvironment.Herconcernwithpesticidesdatedbacktothe1940s,butnoonewould

takeherseriouslyuntilthisbookwasfinallypublishedOnApril14th,1964,Carsonpassedawayduetoaheartattackbut
