I.Objectives:

5.writeanarrativetextaboutapersonalexperiencewithfirstaid.

II.Languagefocus:

1.Vocabulary:bandage,splint,CPR,unconscious,bleeding,choking,poisoning,burn,sprain,fracture,wound,rescue

2.Grammar:Simplepasttense,imperatives,presentperfecttense

3.Skills:Reading,writing,listening,speaking

III.Materials:

1.Textbook:EnglishforToday,8thGrade,Unit5

2.Whiteboardandmarkers

3.Visualaids(picturesoffirstaidsituations)

4.Handoutswithreadingpassagesandcomprehensionquestions

5.Firstaidsupplies(bandages,splints,gloves)

IV.Procedure:

1.Warm-upactivity(10minutes):

-Begintheclassbyaskingthestudentsiftheyhaveeverwitnessedasituationwheresomeonerequiredfirstaid.Allowthemtosharetheirstories.

-Showpicturesofcommonfirstaidsituations(e.g.,someonewithabrokenarm,someonechoking)andaskthestudentstodescribewhattheysee.Encouragethemtousevocabularyrelatedtofirstaid.

2.Vocabularyintroduction(15minutes):

-Writethefollowingvocabularywordsontheboard:bandage,splint,CPR,unconscious,bleeding,choking,poisoning,burn,sprain,fracture,wound,rescue.

-Havethestudentsrepeateachwordafteryou,emphasizingthecorrectpronunciation.

-Providedefinitionsandexamplesentencesforeachword,usingtheboardorvisualaidstoillustratethemeaning.

-Askthestudentstorepeatthedefinitionsandexamplesentencesafteryou,practicingthevocabularyincontext.

-Dividetheclassintopairsorsmallgroupsandgivethemafewminutestocreatetheirownsentencesusingthevocabularywords.Haveafewstudentssharetheirsentenceswiththeclass.

3.Readingandcomprehension(20minutes):

-Distributethehandoutswithreadingpassagesaboutdifferentfirstaidprocedures.

-Instructthestudentstosilentlyreadthepassagesandanswerthecomprehensionquestionsonthehandout.

-Monitorthestudents'progressandprovideassistanceasneeded.

-Afterthestudentshavefinishedreadingandansweringthequestions,goovertheanswersasaclass.Encouragediscussionandaskfollow-upquestionstocheckforunderstanding.

4.Firstaiddemonstration(25minutes):

-Gatherthenecessaryfirstaidsupplies(bandages,splints,gloves)andsetthemupatthefrontoftheclassroom.

-Chooseafewcommonfirstaidsituations(e.g.,bleeding,sprainedankle)anddemonstratetheappropriatefirstaidtreatmentforeachsituation.

-Explaineachstepoftheprocedureasyouperformit,makingsuretousethevocabularywordsintroducedearlier.

-Encouragethestudentstoaskquestionsandprovideadditionalinformationortipsiftheyhaveany.

5.Speakingactivity(15minutes):

-Dividetheclassintopairsorsmallgroups.

-Giveeachgroupascenariowheresomeonerequiresfirstaid(e.g.,someonehasburnedtheirhandwhilecooking,someonehasfallenandinjuredtheirknee).

-Instructthegroupstodiscussanddecideontheappropriatefirstaidtreatmentfortheirassignedscenario.

-Afterafewminutes,haveeachgrouppresenttheirscenarioandexplainthefirstaidtreatmenttheychose.

-Encouragethestudentstousethevocabularyandtechniquestheyhavelearnedduringthelesson.

6.Writingactivity(15minutes):

-Instructthestudentstowriteashortnarrativetextaboutapersonalexperiencewithfirstaid.Theyshoulddescribethesituation,explainthefirstaidtreatmentthatwasprovided,andreflectontheoutcome.

-Encouragethestudentstousethevocabularyandgrammarstructurescoveredintheunit.

-Collectthestudents'writtentextsandprovidefeedbackontheirwork.

7.Wrap-upactivity(5minutes):

-Haveabriefdiscussionwiththestudentsabouttheimportanceofknowingfirstaidandbeingpreparedtohelpothersinemergencysituations.

-Askthestudentsiftheyhaveanyfinalquestionsorcommentsaboutthelesson.
