MAHATMAGANDHIMohandasKaramchandGandhi:thepre-eminentpoliticalandspiritualleaderofIndiaduringtheIndianindependencemovement,havingledIndiatoindependenceandinspiredmovementsforcivilrightsandfreedomacrosstheworld.Peoplecalledhim“mahatma”,ameaningof"GreatSoul".Hispropositionofnon-violentmakeagreateffectonpeople’smovementforrightandpeace.

MAHATMAGANDHIGandhiwasbornon2October1869inPorbandar,acoastaltowninpresent-dayGujarat,HisfatherwasthePrimeMinisterofPorbanderstate,theyaregenerationsofmerchant.Helivedinahindufamily,whobelievepiety,harmlessnessandvegetariandiet.

MAHATMAGANDHIGandhihadaridiculouschildmarriage.InMay1883,the13-yearoldgandhiwasmarriedto14-yearoldindiangirl(KasturbaiMakhanji)inanarrangedchildmarriage,whichwasthecustomintheregionofindia.Andtheyhadfoursons

MAHATMAGANDHIOn4September1888,lessthanamonthbeforehis19thbirthday,withariskofbeingfirecasteidentify,GandhitraveledtoLondon,England,tostudylawatUniversityCollegeLondon.hejoinedtheVegetarianSociety,waselectedtoitsexecutivecommitte,SomeofthevegetarianshemetweremembersoftheTheosophicalSociety,whichhadbeenfoundedin1875tofurtheruniversalbrotherhood,andwhichwasdevotedtothestudyofBuddhistandHinduliterature.

MAHATMAGANDHIAfterhegotalawyerqualificationofUniversityCollegeLondon,hereturnedtoIndiaupongraduation,butwasunabletofindwork.HeacceptedajobinSouthAfrica.InSouthAfrica,GandhifacedthediscriminationdirectedatIndians.HedecidednottoacceptinjusticeandtousehisknowledgeoflawtohelptheIndianpeople.HespoketogroupsofIndianslivinginSouthAfricaabouthumanrights.Heurgedthemtochangelawsthatwereunfair.

FastsGandhiusedtobeavegetarian,andhehaveengagedin17timesoffastsduringhisstruggleforjusticeandindependenceinIndia.Eachtimeofhisfastmightholdalmostaweekontheriskoflossinglife,whichwasinodertoprotestagainstthebritishauthoritiesinIndiaandwakeupIndianpassionandstruggleforcivilrights

Gandhihadmetwith5assassinationinhisshortlife,thelastonewasOn30January1948,Gandhiwasshotwhilehehewaswalkingtoaplatformfromwhichhewastoaddressaprayermeeting.AndmostofGandhi'sasheswereimmersedattheSangamatAllahabadon12February1948butsomeweresecretlytakenaway.

MAHATMAGANDHIMohandusGandhiwasoneofthemostrespected,spiritualandpoliticalleadersofthe1900's.Hecouldhavegetanobelpeaceprize,butattheyearofhisdeath,thenoblepeaceprizecouldnotfindarightawardee,andhavenotgivenawayatthatyear,thatwasagreatpity.Hehashadgreatinfluencesontheworldtoday,
