詞匯精講

1.somethingtoeat

somethingtoeat意為“吃的東西”。句中不定式短語toeat作后置定語,修飾不定代詞somethingo

在英語中,動詞不定式(短語)作定語修飾名詞或代詞時,常位于所修飾詞的后面;something

為不定代詞,不定代詞的修飾語常后置。例如:

Mrs.Blackhaslotsofclothestowash.布萊克夫人有許多衣服要洗。(towash修飾名詞clothes)

Thereisnothinginterestinginthenewspaper.

報紙上沒什么有趣的事。(interesting修飾不定代詞nothing)

2.hold

hold是動詞,意為“舉行,舉辦,召開”,??梢杂胔ave來替換,過去式和過去分詞均為

heldo例如:

holdameeting舉行會議holdaconcert舉行音樂會holdasportsmeeting舉行運動會

(2)feed…withsth.或feedsth.to…意為”向...供給某物“。

4.cleverest

cleverest是形容詞最高級形式,它是由原級“cleveriest”構(gòu)成,意為“最聰明的”。三者或

三者以上進行比較時,用形容詞最高級。除原級和最高級外,形容詞還有比較級,它由“原

級+-er/-r”構(gòu)成,用于兩者之間比較。兩者比較常用than引導(dǎo)。例如:

Heisthecleverestboyinourclass.他是我們班最聰明的男孩。

Sheistallerthanhim.她比他高。

5.wide

wide作副詞或形容詞,意為“寬廣地(的),寬闊地(的)例如:

Thatmandiedwithhiseyesopenwide.那個人死了,眼睛睜的大大的。

Ourclassis10meterslongandeightmeterswide.我們的教室10米長,8米寬。

【拓展】辨析wide與widely(兩者作副詞時的區(qū)別)

(1)wide表示實際意義上的“寬”,意為“寬(地)”。例如:

(2)widely表示比喻意義上的“寬”,意為“廣泛地,廣闊地”。例如:

Englishiswidelyusedintheworld.英語在全世界廣泛應(yīng)用。

6.fight

fight既可作及物動詞又可作不及物動詞,意為“打架,戰(zhàn)斗,斗爭”。

fightwithsb.意為“和某人打架";fightforsth.意為“為某事而打架/戰(zhàn)斗”。例如:

TomoftenfightswithJim.Tom經(jīng)常與Jim打架。

7.lookafter與takecareof

lookafter是動詞短語,意為“照顧、照料”,后接名詞或者代詞做賓語。

例如:Pleaselookafterthelittleboy.請照顧一下這個小孩兒。

lookafter常與詞組takecareof互換,但是表示“看管,維護,保管”常用takecareof。

例如:

8.end

(1)end作為不及物動詞,意為“結(jié)束;終止”,其主語通常是物。例如:

(2)end作為及物動詞,意為“結(jié)束;終止”,其主語通常是人。例如:

Sheendedheremail,她寫完了電子郵件。

(3)end作為名詞,意為“結(jié)束;結(jié)尾;盡頭"。attheendof意為“在...末尾,盡頭”。

例如:Thebankisattheendofthestreet.銀行在這條街的盡頭。

9.anywhere

anywhere作副詞,意為“在任何地方,無論哪里“。多用于疑問句和否定句中,代替somewhere,

用于肯定句時意為“任何地方”。例如:

10.allthetime

allthetime意為“總是,一直"。例如:

1.Thafsit.

That5sit.是一句常用口語,意為“就這樣,對,正是如此等“。其用法如下:

(1)表示贊同或鼓勵,意為“對了,就這樣,這就對了”。例如:

That9sit.Let9stellhimthenews.這就對了,讓我們告訴他這個消息。

(2)表示“結(jié)束”,意為“完了,沒有別的”。例如:

Youcanhaveacakeandthat'sit.你可以吃一塊蛋糕,別的就沒有了。

2.watchsb.dosth.

watchsb.dosth.意為“看(見)某人做某事”,表示一次完整的動作過程或經(jīng)常性,習(xí)慣性

后。相反,Ithinkso.意為“我認為是這樣"。例如:

二者有點區(qū)別:

about常用于簡單的或淺顯的論述等,是一般用語,多用于講故事,談話;思考等;

on多用于系統(tǒng)論述或?qū)n}講演、論著等,具有學(xué)術(shù)性。例如:
