can的用法can表示“許可;可以”,可用于肯定句、否定句和疑問句。否定形式cannot/can’t表示“不能;不可以”,語氣弱于mustn’t。如:Butafterthat,youcanjustsayhello.但在那之后,你就可以簡單地說“你好”了。CanIhavealookatyourphoto?我可以看一下你的照片嗎?Youcan’tputthemilkinfirst.你不能先倒牛奶。(沒有禁止的含義)?

need的用法need作情態(tài)動詞表示“需要”,可用于肯定句、否定句和疑問句。否定形式needn’t比較常用,表示“不需要”或“不必要”。如:Ifshewantsanything,sheneedonlyask.如果她要什么,說一下就行了。Youneedn’twait.你不必等待。注意

must,can,need的一般疑問句的構成及其回答請看下列三組例句:(1)—MustIcomebefore6:30tomorrow?明天我必須在六點半之前來嗎?—Yes,youmust.是的,你必須在那之前到。(表示一定要)—No,youneedn’t.不,你不必在那之前來。(表示沒有必要,相當于youdon’thaveto)(2)—Canwegohomenow,please?請問我們現(xiàn)在能回家嗎?—Yes,youcan.可以。(表示允許)—No,youcan’t.不行。(表示不允許)(3)—NeedIreportittothepoliceoffice?我要向警察局報告這件事嗎?—Yes,youmust.是的,你必須報告。(表示必須做)—No,youneedn’t.不,沒必要。(表示沒必要)?

must與haveto的區(qū)別(1)兩者都表示“必須”,但must側重于說話者的主觀看法,認為有必要或有義務去做某事;haveto側重于客觀需要,含有“不得不;被迫”之意。如:Allpassengersmustwearseatbelts.所有乘客都要系安全帶。Mybikewasbrokenyesterday,soIhadtowalktoschool.昨天我的自行車壞了,所以我只能走路上學。(2)用于否定句時,must的否定式mustn’t意為“一定不要;不允許”;而haveto的否定形式don’thaveto意為“不必”,相當于needn’t。如:Youmustn’ttellhimaboutit.你絕對不要告訴他這件事。(可能是秘密)Youdon’thavetotellhimaboutit.=Youneedn’ttellhimaboutit.你不必告訴他這件事。(他可能知道了或者沒有必要讓他知道)?
