Thingscangowrongonabigscale,asanumberofpeoplerecentlydiscovered

inParramatta,asuburbofSydney.Duringtherushhouroneeveningtwocars

collidedandbothdriversbegantoargue.Thewomanimmediatelybehindthetwo

carshappenedtobealearner.Shesuddenlygotintoapanicandstoppedhercar.

Thismadethedriverfollowingherbrakehard.Hiswifewassittingbesidehimholding

road.Thisledtoyetanotherangryargument.Meanwhile,thetrafficpiledupbehind.

Ittookthepolicenearlyanhourtogetthetrafficonthemoveagain.Inthemeantime,

thelorrydriverhadtosweepuphundredsofbrokenbottles.Onlytwostraydogs

benefitedfromallthisconfusion,fortheygreedilydevouredwhatwasleftofthe

cake.Itwasjustoneofthosedays!

abouttoleavewhenhenoticedalargepackingcaselyingonthefloor.Thedealer

toldhimthatithadiustcomein,butthathecouldnotbebotheredtoopenit.Frank

policemanorderedthemtogoaway,theywerenottotakehimseriously.Headded

thatastudenthaddressedupasapolicemanandwasplayingallsortsofsillyjokes

onpeople.Boththepoliceandtheworkmenwerearatefultothestudentforthis

pieceofadvanceinformation.

Thestudenthidinanarchwaynearbywherehecouldwatchandheareverything

thatwenton.Sureenough,apolicemanarrivedonthesceneandpolitelyaskedthe

workmentogoaway.Whenhereceivedaveryrudereplyfromoneoftheworkmen,

hethreatenedtoremovethembyforce.Theworkmentoldhimtodoashepleased

andthepolicemantelephonedforhelp.Shortlyafterwards,fourmorepolicemen

arrivedandremonstratedwiththeworkmen.Asthemenrefusedtostopworking,the

policeattemptedtoseizethepneumaticdrill.Theworkmenstruggledfiercelyand

oneofthemlosthistemper.Hethreatenedtocallthepolice.Atthis,thepolice

pointedoutironicallythatthiswouldhardlybenecessaryasthemenwerealready

underarrest.Pretendinatospeakseriously,oneoftheworkmenaskedifhemiaht

makeatelephonecallbeforebeinatakent。thestation.Permissionwasarantedand

apolicemanaccompaniedhimtoapavphone.Onlywhenhesawthatthemanwas

actuallytelephoninathepolicedidherealizethattheyhadallbeenthevictimsofa

hoax.

workeverydayaretuckedawayintheirhomesinthecountry.Ithasalwaysbeena

mvstervtomewhydtvdwellers,whoappreciateallthesethinas,obstinately

pretendthattheywouldprefertoliveinthecountry.
