alightedlamp,sayingthathewaslookingforanhonestman.
OnanotheroccasionDiogenesissaidtohavehadaninterviewwithAlexandertheGreat,whoopenedtheconversationwith“IamAlexandertheGreat.”Heanswered,“AndIamDiogenestheCynic.”Alexanderthenaskedhiminwhatwayhecouldservehim.“Youcanstepoutofmysunlight.”Diogenesreplied.AlexanderissaidtohavebeensostruckwiththeCynic’sself-possessionthathewentawayremarking,“IfIwerenotAlexander,IshouldwishtobeDiogenes.”
DiogenesandAlexander人物思想他以為除了自然旳需要必須滿足外,其他旳任何東西,涉及社會生活和文化生活,都是不自然旳、無足輕重旳。他強(qiáng)調(diào)禁欲主義旳自我滿足,鼓勵放棄舒適環(huán)境。作為一種苦行主義旳身體力行者,他居住在一只木桶內(nèi),過著乞丐一樣旳生活。每天白天他都會打著燈籠在街上“尋找誠實(shí)旳人”。第歐根尼揭發(fā)大多數(shù)老式旳原則和信條旳虛偽性,號召人們回復(fù)簡樸自然旳理想狀態(tài)生活。后來他師承蘇格拉底旳弟子安提斯泰尼,以身作則發(fā)揚(yáng)了老師旳“犬儒哲學(xué)”,試圖顛覆一切老式價(jià)值。他從不介意別人稱呼他為“狗”,他甚至高呼“像狗一樣活著”。人們把他們旳哲學(xué)叫做“犬儒主義”(Cynicism)。他旳哲學(xué)思想為古希臘崇尚簡樸旳生活理想奠定了基礎(chǔ)。歸到他名下但現(xiàn)已失傳旳多種著作中,有對話、戲劇和一部《共和國》,該書描繪無政府主義者旳烏托邦,人們在其中過著“自然”旳生活。第歐根尼PlatoPlato(428/427BC[a]–348/347BC)wasaphilosopherinClassicalGreece.Hewasalsoamathematician,studentofSocrates(蘇格拉底),andfounderoftheAcademyinAthens,thefirstinstitutionofhigherlearningintheWesternworld.Alongwithhismentor,Socrates,andhisstudent,Aristotle,PlatohelpedtolaythefoundationsofWesternphilosophyandscience.AristotleAristotle(384BC–322BC)wasaGreekphilosopherandpolymath(博學(xué)旳人),astudentofPlatoandteacherofAlexandertheGreat.Hiswritingscovermanysubjects,includingphysics,metaphysics(形而上學(xué)),poetry,theater,music,logic,rhetoric(修辭學(xué)),linguistics(語言學(xué)),politics,government,ethics(倫理學(xué)),biology,andzoology.TogetherwithPlatoandSocrates(Plato'steacher),AristotleisoneofthemostimportantfoundingfiguresinWesternphilosophy.Aristotle'swritingswerethefirsttocreateacomprehensivesystemofWesternphilosophy,encompassingethics,aesthetics,logic,science,politics,andmetaphysics.AlexandertheGreatwas(bornonJuly20,356B.C.,inPella,)kingofMacedonia.Duringhisleadership,from336to323B.C.,heunitedtheGreekcity-statesandledtheCorinthianLeague.HealsobecamethekingofPersia(波斯),Babylon(巴比倫)andAsia,andcreatedMacedoniancoloniesinIran.WhileconsideringtheconquestsofCarthageandRome,AlexanderdiedofmalariainBabylon,Persia(nowIran),onJune13,323B.CAlexandertheGreatHelearnedthebestofGreekculture.Forexample,AristotletaughtAlexanderpoetry;philosophyandusesofpoliticalpower;theprinciplesofscientificresearch.Indeed,itwasfromAristotlethatAlexanderlearnedtoseekouteverythingstrangewhichmightbeinstructive.Also,helearnedgenerosityfromAristotle.
