解)ofinterpersonalstruggles.Huynhandhiscollaboratorsinvestigatedwhethersimilarbenefitcanbeinducedby

simplythinkingaboutthefuture.Studyparticipantswereinstructedtoreflectonarecentconflictwitharomantic

partneroraclosefriend.Onegroupofparticipantswerethenaskedtodescribehowtheywouldfeelaboutthe

conflictoneyearinthefuture,whileanothergroupwasaskedtodescribehowtheyfeelinthepresent.

Theteamexaminedparticipants9writtenresponsesthroughatext-analysisprogramfortheiruseof

pronouns-suchasI,me,she,he.Thesechoicesofpronounswereusedtocaptureparticipants5focusonthe

feelingsand

behaviourofthoseinvolvedintheconflict.Writtenresponseswerealsoexaminedforforgivenessandreinterpretingthe

conflictmorepositively,bothofwhichimpliedtheparticipants9useofreasoningstrategies.

Theresearchersfoundthatenvisioningfuturerelationshipaffectedbothparticipants5focusontheirfeelings,

andtheirreasoningstrategies.Asaresult,participantsreportedmorepositivityabouttheirrelationshipaltogether,

especiallywhenstudyparticipantsextendedtheirthinkingabouttherelationshipayearintothefuture.
