Alloftheseforcesappeartosignifyafutureinwhichthelanguageofadvertising,popularculture,andconsumerproducts
becomesimilar.AlreadyEnglishandafewothermajortongueshaveemergedasgloballanguagesofcommerceand
communication.Formanyoftheworld'speoples,learningoneoftheselanguagesisviewedasthekeytoeducation,
economicopportunity,andabetterwayoflife.
Onlyabout3,000languagesnowinuseareexpectedtosurvivethecomingcentury.Aremostoftherestdoomedin
thecenturyafterthat?Whethermostoftheselanguagessurvivewillprobablydependonhowstronglyculturalgroupswish
