TomakeabodylanguageinformationsheetLearningobjectivesIngroups,brainstormalistofdifferentkindsofbodylanguage.Usetheinformationfromthisunit,yourownexperienceandknowledge,and/orthewebsiteexcerptbelow.Standingwithone’shandsonone'shipsshowsthatapersonisangryinmanycultures,suchasMalaysia,Argentina,andMexico.ManyMexicansliketotouchpeopleonthearm.Thisshowsthattheywanttobefriendly.WhencommunicatingwithsomeonefromTanzaniaorKenya,donotuseyourlefthandwhengivingorreceivingthingslikeabusinesscardorgift.InVietnameseculture,theheadisconsideredthemostimportantpartofthebody.Onlyparentsoranimportantpersoncantouchyourhead.IfaLebanesepersonstandsclosetoyou,donotfeelthattheyareenteringyourpersonalspace.PersonalspaceisrelativelysmallerinLebanonandmanyotherplaces.InKoreanculture,onemustbecarefulnottoshowtoomuchemotionthroughfacialexpressions,exceptinverycasualsituations.Koreansmaytendtodistrustpeoplewhouseexaggeratedfacialexpressions,ormaymisunderstandwhatthosefacialexpressionsmean.PeopleofPuertoRicomovetheirnosestosay,“What’sgoingonhere?”Basedonyourlist,researchonlinetodiscoverwhatthesamekindsofbodylanguagemeanindifferentcultures.Eachgroupshouldcomeupwithitsownbodylanguageinformationsheetliketheexamplebelow.Drawingsand/orphotoscanbeaddedtoshowwhatthedifferentformsofbodylanguagelooklike.BodyLanguageInformationSheetBodylanguageMeaningMovingthehandincirclesoverthestomachafterameal.
