TheCalloftheWildisoneofmyfavoritenovels.ThewriterofitisJackLondonwasbornin12January1876anddiedin22November1916.HewasanAmericanauthorwhowroteTheCalloftheWildandotherbooks.Apioneerinthethen-burgeoningworldofcommercialmagazinefiction,hewasoneofthefirstAmericanstomakealucrativecareerexclusivelyfromwriting.

Buck.Themaincharacter.buckwasbornadistinctivedog,whohadinheritedstrengthfromhisfatherandwisdomfromhismother.What’smore,hewasborninanotablefamily.Thushewasbroughtwellwithoutmuchhardship.

ButthenewsthatpeoplehavefoundgoldintheArcticzonemadedogsaveryprecioustransportationtool.Unfortunately,buckwassoldbyagreedyservant.Thusbeganhislongjourneyasatransportationdog.First,hewasveryfuriouswiththepeoplewhogotclosetohim.Butoneday,amanwhowasveryskillfulattrainingdogs,beatBucksohardthatBucklearntthelessonofLawofClubandFang.

Formthenon,hewassubmissivetoanyonewhoheldaclub.ThenhewastradedtotwomenwhowenttotheArcticzonetosearchfortune.Itwasinthegroupsofdogsthathemettheleaderdog,Spitz.Aswehavesaidbefore,Buckwasadogthatwasverydifferent.Hehadtheinstincttobetheleader.Butthesituationwasn’tthatoptimistic.Howeverhewaitedandwaitedforthebestchance.Andatlast,itdidcome.ItwasintheraceofchasingarabbitthatBuckdefeatedSpitzandSpitzwaseatenbythehungrygroupofdog.ThenBuckestablishedhisleadership.AfterthegroupofdogsgottotheArcticzone,theybegananotherlongandtiredjourney.TheyhadtodeliverlettersfromworkersintheArcticzonetotheirfamilymembers.Thejourneywasfullofhardship.Theylackedoffood,atthesametimetheyhadtotravelalongwayeverydayasscheduled.What’sworse,thetwomenwhowereinchargeofthegroupsofdogsbeatBuckreallyhard.

Oneday,thetwoownersbeatBucksohardthathewasgoingtodie.Justthen,amannamedJohnThorntoncameouttostopthe“slaughter”.BuckwassavedandheestablishedafirmfriendshipwithJohnThornton.BuckhelpedJohnwonagambleandsavedhislifeonce.ButwhatmadeBuckreallyoutstandingwashisrevengeforhismaster.Onedayaboriginesslaughteredhismasterandtheotherpeople.BecauseofBuck’sdeeploveforhismaster,helosthiscontrolandbittentheaboriginesanddrovethemaway.Intheend,hebecametheleaderofagroupofwolvesinthevalleywherehewasknown

Whatis“thewild”inTheCalloftheWild?Inmyopinion,“thewild”meansarealdogthathasnotbeentamedbyhumans,adogthatwantstogobacktonaturewithoutanysignofhumans,orwecansayadogthatwantstobeawolf,asweallknowwolvesaretheancestorsofdogs.Ontheotherhand,“thewild”alsomeansthewildnature.Sowecansaythat“TheCalloftheWild”alsomeans“TheCalloftheNature”.WhydoesBuckwanttogobacktonature?Buckwasborninanotablefamily,andlivedacomfortableandhappylife.Butwhenhewassoldoutandhadthechancetogetclosetonature,hegotwilderandwilder.Intheend,herevengedhismaster,droveouttheaborigineandlivedalonewithhisgangofwolveswithoutanyhuman.Hisgoingbacktonatureisaperfectexplanationforhisextremedisappointmenttohumancivilizationforhewasbadlytreatedbyhumans,eventhoughhislastmasterwasveryfriendlytohim.

Myopinion,JackLondon’sarrangementforBuck’sfatewassomewhataffectedbytheideasofatavism.SurvivalofthefittestPreviouslyBuckwasaverynotableandgraciousdog.Butwhenhewassoldouthelearnttostealotherdogs’foodforthefirsttimebecausetherewasnotenoughfood.Ifhedidn’tsteal,hemightn’tsurvive.LoyaltyThoughBuck’smasterchangedforseveraltimes,healways

Showedrespecttohismasters.Especiallywhenhislastmasterwasindanger,heevenriskedhisownlifetosavehismaster.Praiseforhard-workingthoughtheconditionwasextremelytough,BuckledhisgroupofdogtotheArecasweknow,Buckanswersthecallofandreturnstothewildfinally.Inmyopinion,thecallisnotfromthewildthoughBuckoftenhearsthehowlofthewolves.Instead,itisfromthebottomofBuck’sheart.Thecallisthewillortheinstinctwhichmakeshimwantstobehim:Awolf.Ithinkeveryoneofushasacallinourhearts.Thecallisourdream,goalorsomethingwereallywanttodo.However,underthepressureofsociety,weoftenhavetogiveupourdreamsorgoals,anddothingsweareunwillingtodo.SoweshouldlearnsomethingfromBuck:Justfollowthecall,andbeyourself!Ticzonesuccessful

AlthoughBuckisadog,buthistoughwayoflifeandhisattitudetothelifecanabsolutelyreflecttherealworldoftheauthor’sage.What’smore,theconnotationthestorywantstotellusistheinevitableresultofthedevelopmentofcapitalism.Itteachesusifwewanttosurvivewemustperfectourselvesnowandthenandweshouldknowtherealmeaningofthetheory“thesurvivalofthefittest”.Simultaneouslytheauthorsuggeststhatinthecompetitive

societyandtheausterenaturalenvironmentonlythepersonwhoisofenormousperseveranceandstrengthcanhavethepossibilityofsurvival.Inthestory,therelationshipbetweenhumananddogchangesalongwiththeattitudethathumantreatsthedog.Butunfortunately,Buckneverreceivesequalloveandrespectfromhumanbeing.Actually,theauthoralsowantstoappealforthehumanityandsympathyforanimalsaswell

Thedogsinthebookareallloyaltotheirmasters.Forexample,amanmakesawagerwithThorntonoverBuck'sstrengthanddevotion.Buckwinsthebetbybreakingahalf-tonsledoutofthefrozenground,thenpullingit100yardsbyhimself.Inaddition,alldogshavesenseofhonor.Theyareallproudofbeingsleddogs,anddevotethemselvestothework.Forexample,Dave,whoisgoingtodie,stillinsistsonworking.“Sickashewas,Daveresentedbeingtakenout,gruntingandgrowlingwhilethetraceswereunfastenedandwhimperingbroken-heartedlywhenhesawSol-leeks(anotherdog)inthepositionhehadheldandservedsolong.Fortheprideoftraceandtrailwashis,and,sicktodeath,hecouldnotbearthatanotherdogshoulddohiswork.”Bothloyaltyandhonorarebasedonlovewhichiswhattouchesmedeeply.BecauseoflovetoThornton,Buckdoessuchthingthatseemsimpossibletoaccomplish.Becauseofsenseofhonor,Daveinsistsonworkingtillhedies

Asweknow,Buckanswersthecallofandreturnstothewildfinally.Inmyopinion,thecallisnotfromthewildthoughBuckoftenhearsthehowlofthewolves.Instead,itisfromthebottomofBuck’sheart.Thecallisthewillortheinstinctwhichmakeshimwanttobehimself:Awolf.Ithinkeveryoneofushasacallinourhearts.Thecallisourdream,goalorsomethingwereallywanttodo.However,underthepressureofsociety,weoftenhavetogiveupourdreamsorgoals,anddothingsweareunwillingtodo.SoweshouldlearnsomethingfromBuck:Justfollowthecall,andbeyourself!
