1、Gender Differences in College TeachersStudents Praise As the author works in the university , her job brings convenience for the subjects and data collection. Some of the colleagues and the undergraduates in North East Dian Li University are chosen as the subjects of this paper. The author is very f
2、amiliar with some of them, while some are not. The data collection was carried out by taking use of three methods : questionnaire , field observation and interview. The differences between male teachers praise for male students and male teachers praise for female students in the contents of praise w
3、ill be illustrated in the following table : As far as the content of male teachers praise is concerned , it is easy to discover from table 1 that the proportion of intelligence, ability , creativity is 71.82%and 43.64%, 53.18% and 12.73%, 40.45% and 6.36% for male students and female students respec
4、tively. From the data above, it is clear that male teachers place much more emphasis on male students intelligence , ability and creativity in their praise ; on the contrary , male teachers tend to pay much more attention to female students diligence , obedience and good attitude , which can be foun
5、d out in these data : 69.55% vs. 25% , 43.64% vs. 6.36% , 62.73% vs. 34.55%. The following examples are good evidence of what mentioned above : Observation data 1 : 男老師對男學(xué)生: 你辦事,我放心。 Observation data 2 : 男老師對男學(xué)生: 厲害,真棒。 Observation data 3 : 男老師對男學(xué)生: 你很聰明,繼續(xù)加油! Observation data 4 : 男老師對男學(xué)生: 這個想法很有新意,
6、很獨特。 Observation data 1 and observation data 2 are good evidence that male teachers tend to praise male students ability. “你辦事,我放心” and “厲害,真棒” are suitable expressions to affirm ones capacity. It is obvious from data 3 that male teachers prefer to give their praise because of male students intellig
7、ence. The words “有 新意,很獨特” in observation data4 are the descriptions of the male student s creativity.Therefore , observation data 4 reflects that male students creativity is pai much more attention in male teachers praise. Observation data 5 : 男老師對女學(xué)生: 表現(xiàn)很好,平時成績給很高的。 Observation data 6 : 男老師對女學(xué)生: 咱
8、班女學(xué)生比男學(xué)生聽話! Observation data 7 : 男老師對女學(xué)生: 這陣子還行,比前一陣強。 Observation data 8 : 男老師對女學(xué)生: 自學(xué)能力很好, 很努力。 In observation data 5 and observation data 6, the male teachers give their praise owing to the female students obedience , which can be detected from the words“表現(xiàn) 很好” and “聽話”. In observation data 7, th
9、e female student is praised for the change of her attitude to study. “很努力” in observation data 8 undoubtedly describe the female student s diligence. The above data show that male teachers often pay much more attention to female student s obedience , good attitude and obedience. Reference : 1 Fasold
