4、ar. the main character of gone with the wind is scarlett ohara, a daughter of an owner of a plantation in the south. her love, her experiences and the changes of life value are the plots of this book. there are many studies about scarlett ohara: her ardent towards life; the character of hardhearted,

5、 unscrupulousness but with strong mind and capableness; her feminism and so on. this thesis mainly focuses on the character of the male figurerhett butler, a bold, cynical rule-breaker, and he is deeply attracted by scarlett, and sees her as his soul mate in rebellion.2 there are three parts mostly

57、d at home behind lock doors and shutter windows, the men fearing to go to their businesses and leave their women and children unprotected.the klan revenges for scarlett as she perseveres in making her rounds alone to manage her mills and is almost raped by two men. however, the yankees suspect the k

58、lan and theyve devised troops to lay for them. at this very serious moment, rhett risks his own life to save ashley and other atlanta men during the ku klux klan raid by using his intelligence and courage. in addition, he thinks out a perfect plan to handle the thing for going against the yankees ca

59、tch and in case of having to light out of atlanta for texas and lay low and maybe never come back. and it is certainly that he succeeds in saving the peoples life for he is a so intelligent and courageous man except the two have died before his arriving.iii. the contradiction between rhett butlers thoughts and actionsrhett butler, one of aristocrats in the south should follow a gentlemans road while takes the opposite way. he has sharp observation and a clear-head
