1、.EduPaz FY11 Work Plan and Budget SummaryA) Executive Summary:· Utilize microcredit to support groups who are interested in working with an environmentally friendly focus and share with them knowledge of organic agriculture, alternative technologies and other practices that will facilitate work
2、ing towards food security· Facilitate the groups participation in planning and ensure they have a close relationship with the EduPaz team· Encourage groups to support each other, share experiences, work towards unity by overcoming differences, and together acknowledge issues that are affec
3、ting everyone and take actions that will have an impact throughout the communityB) Introduction and Background:· The need for farm families to have microcredit support to alleviate their financial situation and to help them resolve food insecurity· The need for EduPaz to become more involv
4、ed in the awareness and actions of environmental degradation that affects everyone; and the need to promote food sovereignty among farmers · The importance of strengthening and increasing the impacts of EduPazs work and increase participation through better organizing; that the people in our gr
5、oups are not just microcredit recipients but also individuals who can contribute to the EduPaz team· The need to address more formally gender equity with the women groups and with women outside the group so they can integrate a specific agenda on gender equity and monitor the process of women e
6、mpowerment within the families and communitiesBuenavista Pachán:· Buenavista Pachán has a history of social struggle and years of experience in community and collective work· The population are indigenous and farmers who have indigenous traditions and values such as: appreciation
7、 for land/fields, hospitality, family unity and community values, work responsibility, respect for tradition and harmony, being deeply religious, and with a lot of desire to improving their lives· Community members have had positive and negative experience with governmental and non-profit work,
8、 which gives them a critical eye as well as wisdom in analyzing their engagement with different organizations· Their lessons learned of this community will help guide the pilot community model that EduPaz will be working together with themC) Goals and Objectives:· Support microcredit group
9、s organization and increase its agroecological awareness and practices- working towards food security, environmental care, and support a pilot community model · Integrate economic solidarity with the agroecology program (microcredit will strengthen food security and environmental protection)
10、83; Building gender equity awareness· Organizational development of EduPaz (delegate responsibilities among team members, mutual support and more active participation of community groups EduPaz serves)D) Strategy and Actions:I. Economic Solidarity and Agroecology Programs:· Provide microcr
11、edit only to groups who accept the following: begin using agroecological practices, participate in the meetings and training workshops- total of 30 groups· The groups will select 30 male and female adolescents that will be trained as agroecology and green technology promoters in Tziscao and Bue
12、navista Pachán (selected by their own communities) · Request the groups of Buenavista Pachán to provide a small plot of land for agroecology students can learn these practices in this community and not have to travel to Tziscao to receive training· Provide technical assistance fo
13、r the income generating projects upon the groups request· Accept 15 to 20 new microcredit groups throughout the year· Work towards having groups use at least one of these green technologies: wood-saving stoves, rainwater-capturing tanks, water filters, and dry latrines by providing 3 works
14、hops on green technologies· Conduct bimonthly site visits to microcredit groups in their communities· Coordinate bimonthly meetings at EduPaz office for group representativesII. Pilot Community Model:· The Buenavista Pachán community will be a pilot community model, where we 15 g
15、roups will participate in the following objectives: o Organizationo Process for organizing among groupso Participatory approach to community assessmento Organize and diversify their production o Identify community activities that build strength and unity in the community· At the beginning of th
16、e year hold a meeting with all the groups from Buenavista Pachán to discuss the new pilot community model and identify the needs and challenges to carry out this community process· Encourage groups to share knowledge and experiences and promote mutual support · Identify the leadership
17、 board for these groups and provide support so they can carry out follow-up tasks and guidance in this new community process· Encourage existing groups (and when possible with other people of the community) to participate in the following activities:o Joint planning of their projectso Participa
18、tory community assessment of their resourceso Possible alternatives to diversify their production and marketo Boost ecological participation in vermicompost, expand compost and wood-saving stoves, etc depending on their interest and capacityo Build awareness of gender equity among men and women·
19、; Support initiatives the community already practices that encourages respect among community members and helps resolve conflicts between different groups (by religion, political parties or by other specific interests) and finds solutions, open spaces for dialogue and mutual agreements· Opening
20、 a dialogue to enter a process on communal land usage and planning that takes into account the crops, water, forest, cattle, crop diversity, exchange and commercializationE) Anticipated Outcomes:· Directly benefit 210 people · Provide 15 microcredits to existing and 15 to 20 microcredits t
