nderCtogivepeoplebetween23-39fluDtoallowcertainwomentohave1VFNICEadmitsthatAsomedrugsusedbytheNHSwerenotclinicallyBtheiradviceissometimesignoredbytheCitisoftenhardtodetermineifapatienthascausedhisorherDtheyaremoreconcernedaboutcosteffectivenessthanLookatthefollowingstatements(Questions7-13)andthelistofpeoplebelow.MatcheachstatementwiththecorrectA-C.Thiswashappythat-NICErealisedagediscriminationneededdealingThisholdsaveryhighpositionintheNICEThisisamemberofapoliticalThissaystheirpolicyregardingageispreciseandeasytoThisdoesnotagreewiththepositiontakenbyThisfeelstheNHSmustfurtherimproveitsrelationswiththeThissaysthatNICEdoesnotdiscriminateonthegroundsofAMichaelBSteveCJonathan2below.PRIVATEMostcountries’educationsystemshavehadwhatyoumightcalleducationaldisasters,but,sadly,inmanyareasofcertaincountriesthese‘disasters’arestillevidenttoday.TheEnglisheducationsystemisuniqueduetothefactthattherearestilldozensofschoolswhichareknownasprivateschoolsandtheyperpetuateprivilegeandsocialdivision.Mostcountrieshavesomeprivateschoolsforthechildrenofthewealthy;Englandisabletomorethantripletheaveragenumberglobally.Englandhasaround3,000privateschoolsandjustunderhalfamillionchildrenareeducatedatthemwhilstsomeninemillionchildrenareeducatedatstateschools.Theoverwhelmingmajorityofstudentsatprivateschoolsalsocomefrommiddle-classfamilies.TheresultofthissystemisevidentandithasmuchEnglishhistoryembeddedwithinit.Thefactsseemtospeakforthemselves.IntheprivatesystemalmosthalfthestudentsgoontoUniversity,whilstinthestatesystemonlyabouteightpercentmakeittofurthereducation.However,statisticssuchasthesecanbedeceptiveduetothefactthatmiddle-classchildrendobetteratexaminationsthanworkingclassones,andmostofthemstayonatschoolafter16.Privateschoolsthereforehavetheadvantageoverstateschoolsastheyareentirely‘middleclass’,andthiscreatesanenvironmentofsuccesswherestudentsworkharderandapplythemselvesmorediligentlytotheirschoolwork.Privateschoolsareextortionayexpensive,beingasmuchas£18,000ayearatsomewheresuchasHarroworEton,wherePrincesWilliamandHarryattended,andatleast£8,000ayearalmosteverywhereelse.Therearemanyparentswhoarenotwealthyorevencomfortablyoffbutarewillingtosacrificeagreatdealinthecauseoftheirchildren’sschooling.Itbafflesmanypeopleastowhytheyneedtospendsuchvastamountswhenthereareperfectlyacceptablestateschoolsthatdon’tcostapenny.Onefathergavehisreasoningforsendinghissontoaprivateschool,‘Ifmysongetsafive-percent-betterchanceofgoingtoUniversitythenthatmaybethedif-ferencebetweensuccessandfailure.”Itwouldseemtotheaveragethata£50,000minimumtotalcostofsecondleveleducationisalottopayforafive-percent-betterchance.Mostchildren,giventhechoice,wouldtakethemoneyandspenditonmoreenjoyablethingsratherthansingitoutonaschoolthatistooposhforitsowngoodHowever,somesaythattherealreasonthatparentsforkoutthecashisprejudice:theydon’twanttheirlittlekidsmixingwiththe“workers”,orpickingupanundesirableaccent.Inadditiontothis,itwouldn’tfatthenextdinnerpartyalltheguestswereboastingaboudingtheirkidstothesameplacewherethesonofthethirdcousinofPrinceCharlesisgoing,andyousayyourkidisgoingtothestateschooldowntheroad,evenifyoucouldpocketthemoneyforyourselfinstead,and,asaresult,beabletoservethebestChampagnewiththesmokedsalmonandduck.Itisafact,however,thatatmanyofthebestprivateschools,yourmoneybuysyousomething.Oneschool,with500pupils,has11sciencelaboratories;anotherschoolwith800pupils,has30musicpracticerooms;anotherhas16squashcourts,andyetanotherhasitsownbeach.Privateschoolsspend£300perpupilayearoninvestmentinbuildingsandfacilities;thestatesystemspendslessthan£50.Onbooks,theratiois3to1.Oneofthethingsthatyourmoneybuyswhichisdifficulttofyistheappearanceoftheschool,thewayitlooks.Mostprivateschoolsthatyouwillfindaresetinbeautiful,well-keptcountryhouses,withextensivegroundsandgardens.Incomparisonwiththestateschools,theytendtolooklikecastles,withtheworstofthestateschoolslookinglikepubliclavatories,perhapseventiledorcoveredingraffiti.Manymayevenhaveanarchitecturaldesignthatisjustaboutonthelevelofanindustrialshed.Question14-ChoosethecorrectletterA,B,CorTheEnglisheducationalsystemdiffersfromtheotheronesbecauseA.ittriestomakestateandprivateB.morestudentsareeducatedatprivateschoolsthanstateC.itcontributestocreatingaclasssystemwithinD.itismoreexpensivetoTherearemoreprivateschoolchildrenwhogotouniversityA.thelessonsandteachersattheprivateschoolsaremuchB.theirparentsoftensendtheirchildrentoprivateC.theyhavemoreteachingD.theschoolcreateasuccessfulAlotofparentsoftensendtheirchildrentoprivateschoolsA.becausetheyarenotwell-B.toshowhowmuoneytheyhavetotheirC.toincreasetheirchancesofsucceedingintheuniversityD.becauseofthebettersportsItissuggestedthatsomeparentsofchildrenatprivateschoolsareA.prejudicedandB.moreinligentthatthosewithchildrenatstateC.well-brought-upandD.overlyPrivateschoolA.alwayshavetheirownB.teachsportsthatstateschoolsdoC.spendmoremoneyperstudentthanstateD.spendmoremoneyonhiringgoodWriterthinksthatprivate-schoolbuildingsA.areveryattractiveandB.generallydonotlookveryC.aretoobigfortheamountofs
