Theycarrytheweightofthebogieframeandanythingattachedtoit.MotorSuspensionTubeManymotorsaresuspendedbetweenthetransversememberofthebogieframecalledthetransomandtheaxle.

Thismotoriscalled"nosesuspended"becauseitishungbetweenthesuspensiontubeandasinglemountingonthebogietransomcalledthenose.GearboxThiscontainsthepinionandgearwheelwhichconnectsthedrivefromthearmaturetotheaxle.LiftingLugAllowsthebogietobeliftedbyacranewithouttheneedtotiechainsorropesaroundtheframe.MotorNormally,eachaxlehasitsownmotor.

Itdrivestheaxlethroughthegearbox.

Somedesigns,particularlyontramcars,useamotortodrivetwoaxlesNeutralSectionSwitchDetectorIntheUK,theoverheadlineisdividedintosectionswithshortneutralsectionsseparatingthem.

Itisnecessarytoswitchoffthecurrentonthetrainwhiletheneutralsectioniscrossed.

Amagneticdevicemountedonthetrackmarksthestartandfinishoftheneutralsection.

Thedeviceisdetectedbyaboxmountedontheleadingbogieofthetraintoinformtheequipmentwhentoswitchoffandon.SecondarySuspensionAirBagRubberairsuspensionbagsareprovidedasthesecondarysuspensionsystemformostmoderntrains.

Theairissuppliedfromthetrain'scompressedairsystem.WheelSlideProtectionSystemLeadtoAxleboxWhereaWheelSlideProtection(WSP)systemisfitted,axleboxesarefittedwithspeedsensors.

TheseareconnectedbymeansofacableattachedtotheWSPboxcoverontheaxleend.LooseLeadsforConnectiontoCarbodyThemotorcircuitsareconnectedtothetractionequipmentinthecarorlocomotivebyflexibleleadsshownhere.ShockAbsorberToreducetheeffectsofvibrationoccurringasaresultofthewheel/railinterface.AxleboxCoverSimpleprotectionforthereturncurrentbrush,if
