3Theuseofthethreadedfastenersremainsthebasicassemblymethodinthedesignandconstructionofmachinesdespiteadvancesinothermethodsofjoining.盡管存在其它先進的聯接方式，螺紋緊固件的應用仍保留了機器設計和制造過程中基本的裝配方法。

4Thusthedesignersmustselectstandardfastenersofthetypeandsizethatwillmostadequatelysuittheapplicationathand.因此，設計者在滿足使用要求時應用標準類型和尺寸的螺紋緊固件。

5Paragraph2:

Athreadedfastenerisadevicethatcaneffectivelyexert(施加)andmaintainalargeforceinonedirection(axially)throughtheapplicationofasmallforceinanotherdirection(tangentially).螺紋緊固件是這樣一個裝置，在切線方向上施加一個較小的力，能在軸線方向上有效地產生并保持一個較大的力。

6Allarebasedonthesinglethreadedscrew,asimplemachinethatyieldsalargemechanicaladvantage(機械增益)inminimalspaceandtheoreticallyisselflocking(自鎖的).所有這些都是基于單頭螺紋螺釘的，它是一個簡單機械，可以在最小的空間內產生很大的機械增益，而且在理論上是自鎖的。

7Effectiveusehowever,requirestheaidoftwoothersimplemachines:thelever(手柄)andthewheel-and-axlemachine.Thewrench(扳手)isbasicallyalever,thescrewdriverisawheel-and-axlemachine.而這一有效應用，要借助兩個其它簡單機械：杠桿和輪軸機械。扳手是一種基本杠桿；螺絲刀是一種輪軸機械。

8Paragraph3:Threadedfastenersarebasicallysmall,highlystressedtensilecomponents.Threadsarehelical(螺旋狀的)ridges(凸起)formedbycuttingorcoldforming(冷加工)agroove(凹槽)ontothesurfaceofacylindricalbar,thusproducingwhatisknownasascrew,bolt,orstud(雙頭螺栓).螺紋緊固件是尺寸較小，承受高拉應力的零件。螺紋是通過在圓柱形棒料上切削加工或冷壓成型的溝槽形成的螺旋凸起物，這樣產生了大家所知的螺釘、螺栓、雙頭螺柱。

9Threadsarealsoformedinternallyincylindricalholesandconstitute(構成)whatisknownasanut(螺母).Matchingexternalandinternalthreadssothattheymaybeassembledisthekeytoallthreadedfasteners.螺紋也可在孔的內圓柱表面上生成，這就形成了螺母。內外螺紋匹配是所有螺紋緊固件裝配的關鍵。

10Therotarymotionofanutagainstastationaryscrewfirstimpartsanaxialmovementalongthescrew.相對靜止的螺栓，螺母的旋轉運動會產生一個沿螺栓軸線方向的直線運動。Whenresistanceisencountered,thethreadsgenerateanaxialforceasdictatedbytheprincipleofthewedge(斜楔原理).受到阻力時，螺紋產生軸向力的現象可由斜面原理來解釋。

11Furtherrotationdemandsincreasedefforts(torque),witharesultingincreaseinaxialforce.再進一步旋轉需要增加扭矩（torque）同時軸向力也增大。Thustheconnectionremainstightunlesssomeexternalinfluencesuchasvibrationortemperaturechangeoverridestheinitialcondition.這樣只要沒有像振動、溫度變化這些外部因素改變初始條件，這種聯接就能維持緊固的狀態(tài)。

12Paragraph4:Unifiedstandardthreadisavailableinthreebasicseriesofdiameter-pitch(直徑螺距)combinations.統一標準（unifiedshandard）螺紋有三個基本系列的直徑螺距組合。

13Thecoarse-threadseries(UNC)ismostcommonandisrecommendedforgeneralassemblyusewherevibrationisnotaproblemandwherefrequentdisassemblyisrequired.統一標準粗牙螺紋系列是最普通的，推薦用于一般的裝配場合——振動較小，頻繁拆卸。14Thefine-threadseries(UNF)issomewhatstrongerintensionandismoresuitablewherefineadjustmentmayberequired.Thisseriesisoftenusedinaircraftassemblies.統一標準細牙螺紋系列具有較大張緊力，較適用于精密調整的場合。該系列常用于航空器的裝配。15Theextra-fine-threadseries(UNEF)isemployedwherethematingexternalthreadisinathin-walledmember(薄壁件).統一標準超細牙螺紋用于薄壁零件的外螺紋配合。Thisseriesisalsomoreresistancetovibrationandprovidesforveryfineadjustment.該系列用于要求抗振動性強的場合，及更精密調整的場合。

16Paragraph5Unifiedstandardthreadsareidentifiedondrawings,partslists(零件清單),andsoforth,withashorthandnotation(簡單標注法)thatincludessize,threadseries,classoffit,externalorinternalthreadsymbol(Aisforexternalthreads,Bisforinternalthreads),andthehandofthread(螺紋旋向).統一標準螺紋用一個簡化符號標識在圖形零件的細表等場合。該符號包括：尺寸，螺紋系列，配合等級，內外螺紋符號（A——外螺紋，B——內螺紋）及旋向。

17Forexample,thedesignation1/4-20UNC-2A-RHidentifiesanexternallythreadedparthavingabasicmajordiameterof1/4in.,unifiedcoarsethreadwith20threadsperinch,toleranceclass2,andright-handthreads.如標示：，表示：一外螺紋零件，公稱直徑英寸，20牙/英寸的統一粗牙螺紋，公差等級2，及右旋螺紋。18Usuallythehanddesignationisomittedforright-hand,sincethesearestandard.Anotherexampleis3/4-16UNF-2B-LHwhichdesignatesaninternal,left-handthreadhavingabasicmajordiameterof3/4in.,and16unifiedfinethreadsperinchoflength.右旋螺紋由于是標準旋向，其右旋標示常省略。另一例子：表示：內螺紋，左旋，公稱尺寸（直徑）英寸，統一細牙螺紋16牙/英寸，公差等級2。

19Paragraph6ISOstandardsincludemanydiameter-pitchcombinations,butproposedUSstandardsspecifyasinglediameterpitchseries.ISO標準包含許多直徑螺距組合系列，但推薦的美國標準指定了單一的直徑螺距組合系列。
