prehensible,andafewofwhomkilledthemselves.Theothersupposedguarantorsofoureconomicsecuritywerealsoindecline.Labour-unionmembershipandpowerfelltotheirlowestlevelsindecades.ClintonsignedahistoricbillscalingbackAmericansrealizedthatSocialSecuritywon’tprovidesocialforanyofAlessvisiblebutequallysignificanttrendaaffectedpensions.Tomakecostseasiertocontrol,companiesmovedawayfromdefinedbenefitpensionns,whichobligatethemtopayoutspecifiedamountsyearsinthefuture,todefinedcontributionns,whichspecifyonlyhowmuchgoesintotheytoday.Themostcommontypeofdefined-contributionnisthe401(k).thesignificanceofThe401(k)isthatitputsmostoftheresponsibilityfora
