Oceanscanbecomewarmenoughinthesummerforhurricanestodevelop,andtheoceansalsoretainsummerheatthroughthefall.Asaresult,thehurricaneseasonintheAtlanticBasin,whichcomprisestheAtlanticOcean,CaribbeanSea,andtheGulfofMexico,runsfromJune1throughNovember30.Atleast25out-of-seasonstorms,however,haveoccurredfrom1887through2003,and9ofthesestrengthenedintohurricanesforatleastafewhours.
