Introduction:

-Introducethetopicofthelesson:animalsandatriptothezoo.

-Askthestudentsiftheyhaveeverbeentoazooandwhatanimalstheysaw.

Pre-readingactivities:

-Showpicturesofdifferentanimalsandaskthestudentstoidentifythem.

-Revieworteachvocabularyrelatedtoanimals,suchaslion,tiger,panda,giraffe,elephant,etc.

-Practicepronunciationoftheanimalnames.

Reading:

OnesunnySaturdaymorning,Amy,Ben,andtheirparentswenttothezoo.Theywereexcitedtoseeallthedifferentanimals.Astheyenteredthezoo,theysawasignwithamapthatshowedwhereeachanimalwaslocated.

First,theywenttothelionexhibit.Theysawtwolionslyinglazilyinthesun.Thelionshadthick,goldenmanesandlookedmajestic.AmyandBenwereamazedbytheirbeauty.

Next,theyvisitedthetigerexhibit.Therewasonlyonetigerintheenclosure.Itwaspacingbackandforth,lookingfierce.Thetigerhadorangeandblackstripesalloveritsbody.AmyandBenthoughtitwasthemostimpressiveanimaltheyhadeverseen.

Afterthetigers,theywenttoseethepandas.Thepandaswereblackandwhiteandwereeatingbamboo.AmyandBenfoundthemcuteandcuddly.

Then,theymovedontothegiraffeexhibit.Thegiraffeshadlongnecksandwereeatingleavesfromthetalltrees.AmyandBenthoughttheylookedfunnywiththeirlonglegsandlongnecks.

Finally,theywenttotheelephantenclosure.Theelephantsweresprayingwateronthemselvestocooldown.AmyandBenwereamazedathowbigandstrongtheywere.

Post-readingactivities:

-Discussthedifferentanimalsmentionedinthetextandaskthestudentstodescribetheirappearanceandbehaviors.

-Askthestudentswhichanimaltheylikedthemostandwhy.

-Haveaclassdiscussionaboutthestudents'favoriteanimalsandwhattheywouldliketoseeiftheyhadthechancetovisitazoo.

Additionalactivities:

-Playamemorygamewithanimalflashcards.Showthestudentsasetofanimalflashcardsandhavethemtrytorememberandsaythenamesofasmanyanimalsastheycan.

-Havethestudentsdrawandcolortheirfavoriteanimalandwriteashortdescriptionofit.

-Reviewtheanimalvocabularyandhaveabriefrecapofthemainpointsfromthelesson.

-Encouragethestudentstovisitazooiftheyhavetheopportunityandappreciatethebeautyanddiversityofanimals.
